Benz navigation?
Today was the first day making a trip into DC since I picked up a CPO 2010 E550 4Matic. I punched in the destination on both Benz and my Android cell and off I went. Not surprisingly Benz nav was directing me to a different route than android and its routes were not efficient at all. It seemed that it was purposefully avoiding Highway 66 (HOV on weekdays). My other cars did that (couple of Acuras and several BMWs) so no problem. But Benz nav was so persistant and it kept asking me to take an exit so it could guide me "way around" to another highway until I actually went into DC. All other factory navs were bad but they usually gave up and put me on 66 after a mile or so, but not Benz. Is this typical of Benz nav or is it just 2010 E Class nav? Perhaps I need comman upgrade? My route pref was set to "fast".
If it means anything, my 2011 BMW X3 navigation is the worst of all navs that I've ever had, worse than my E. Barely useful and mostly annoying.

If you can get the upgrade for free, I'd do it. Otherwise, I don't think it's worth what MB charges for it. I have a 2012 and the nav is pretty abysmal. Better off sticking with your phone IMO, as inconvenient as that may be.
I have a pioneer aftermarket nav system in another vehicle from 2007 or so, and it is lightyears better than the w212 nav system in my 2012. Most disappointing part of the car IMO.

What Mikemargolis said.
If the 2010 offers the same options as the latest 2012 version, the Nav can be programmed many ways for the type of roads/type of trip you want to take. Off the top of my head e.g.: fastest most direct, no highways, sight-seeing, auto re-direct around known obstructions, etc. and etc., ad nauseum.
Before you rip it out of the dash, suggest you make sure it's set the way you want it.
Hope this helps you.

Mike and the other posters are right in checking the settings but all factory navigation units seem to have issues with routing via restricted use roads. Both the BMW and MB want to avoid both 66 and Canal road in DC. For those of you out of town, part of 66 is HOV going with rush hour traffic (inbound in morning, outbound in pm) while Canal is actually contraflow depending on the time of day..
