W212 COMAND NAV - Update soon? BMW just raised the bar
New iDrive system looks pretty promising for the 2013 5 series. Mercedes badly needs to revamp the COMAND system in their cars. Here is a link to the new BMW system below.

I agree and plus they've had heads up display for speed and navigation for a while. It would be such a useful safety feature for me so I can keep my eyes more on the road.
Mercedes really needs to catch up with their navigation technology...
Also Audi is smart enough to integrate with Google maps in their navigation system for navigation as well as POI data. It is also a better system than what Mercedes offers.

Yep, worst feature on our vehicle. Horrible screen, bad nav, and just blah settings. Thats the only thing I would really want different. Others have posted about this also, but my 08' pioneer avic z3 thats in my 2008 dodge cummins mega cab 3500 smokes the nav in my 2011 mb. So boring.

The detail being shown is due to the data. I have not discovered a location in the US that has maps to this detail. I am overall quite pleased with the NAV in my E. It does a nice jobe of 3D rendering if the data is there.

Me too! I've lately been using Google navigation in my Droid 4. Really takes away from the elegant layout of the car to have a phone thrown in there for navigation but it just works better.

BMW is ahead of Mercedes-Benz in some systems but I don't think this could last long , the new upcoming facelift W212 should be getting more goodies
