Homelink question

the procedure is to clear the buttons by pressing the two outer ones until it flashes fast (I think). Then the step everyone skips...you have to tell homelink the frequency of your transmitter to use on that button....follow those instructions......then push the button on the garage door opener and press the homelink button three times. No, you can't just clear the homelink buttons, press the button on the garage door and press the button three times...that doesn't work...and it's what everyone does until they decide to actually follow all of the instructions.

The documentation in the manual is correct and it is pretty much exactly the same as in the infinity and Hyundai ... I've done the setup so many times but embarrassingly I always leave an hour to do it because I inevitably forget that I have to follow every step. It's just so easy to shortcut that I, and so many others, do.....and of course we fail.

I continue to assure you that you are all wrong!!! Only Liftmaster's top of the line model has the new technology. They still make many models that do not incorporate this tech:
http://www.liftmaster.com/lmcv2/page....aspx?famid=40
The link I posted indicated that even though they rolled out tech in 2007 many 2012 vehicles still do not have homelink 4.0.
I have tried to pair it many times. I have setup homelink dozens of times with my vehicles and neighbors alike. My 2010 does not have homelink 4.0 in it!!! If anyone can prove that they have a liftmaster 8550 working without repeater in 2010 e-class, I will buy you a beer next time you are in my neck of the woods!!!![Cheers](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/cheers.gif)

Somehow garage door opener vendors should communicate with car maker to keep technologies in sync. I suspect Mercedes or other car makers do not invent own garage door opener unit, they just buy it from one vendor who supposed to be in synch with garage door opener manufactures.
I have another problem, my garage opener unit is 15 years old, so it isn’t covered by Mercedes manual, somehow I manage to program it, but procedure just slightly follow instructions, most steps I invented myself but it works.
My major problem that I have W212 of first production units with many bugs and one of them garage door opener forgets settings. It happens sometime, I can’t find out, maybe when car accidently goes through strong electromagnetic fields maybe something else, so I need to reprogram the unit once a year.

I have struggled with setting up homelink on at least our last 10 cars. It is such a simple process that always requires me at least one hour including going to the homelink site and carefully reading the instructions. It's painful, but at this point I laugh every time I get a new car because I know it will take me an hour of frustration. Logic doesn't work...you have to follow every step of the instructions.

the instructions in my 2012 manual has an error where the instructions either skip a step or add a step that shouldnt be done, i forget which one, still took about 15 minutes to do and just a little trial and error

Programming a rolling code with HomeLink can be a bit confusing, the key lies on getting the remote in sync with the freq supported on the HomeLink system in your car.
http://www.homelink.com/program/inst.../0/0/usenglish
In the US region, if you can revert the remote freq to 390MHz, you should be able to program it with any HomeLink buttons.
However, if your remote sends out signals on 315MHz, which is supported on newer garage door openers, you won't be able to program it with some of the older HomeLink buttons prior to 2010.
The confusing part comes from the fact that newer remotes could send out signal either in 315MHz or 390MHz, that would explain why some people had success with their 2010 models while others did not.
Take Genie (major manufacturer in US for garage door openers) for example:
Intellicode 1 supports only 390MHz (red LED)
Intellicode 2 supports both 315/390MHz (green LED)
(press the remote button and hold it for 10 seconds, let go, push the button twice, it will allow you to change from Intellicode 1 to Intellicode 2 or vice versa)
I believe the the LiftMaster/Chamberlain/Craftsman is the same with its Security+ 2.0 system, but not sure if it can fall back to 1.0?
Probably need someone to figure out the freq compatibility for the EU region as well.
Once you get the freq right, the rest is pretty straight forward.
1. Program the HomeLink button by pressing both the HomeLink and the remote button until it blinks and then blinks rapidly.
2. Push the learn button, then the HomeLink button twice (3 sec each).

I just went through programming my 2010 MB to my 2014 liftmaster. I had to buy one of those repeater kits. Programming was a snap.

I have a 2010 e550 and the homelink in the rear view mirror is not compatible with the newest garage door openers. I have a special repeater that allows my car to work but it is buggy and does not have the same range. I am not sure why Mercedes still has the old technology as the car manufactures all had the info in 2008. Has anyone run into this problem? Is there an easy way to replace the homelink in the rear view mirror?
What I do find is that I had to programme it to the left side button in both cars. The center and right buttons would not program on either car. Try different buttons and make sure you try both methods in the owners manual is all I can suggest.

My 2003 W211 Sedan, my 2009 W211 Wagon and my 2011 W212 Wagon all mated well with my 2007 opener following the procedures in the Owner's manual. Sometimes you have to use the alternate procedure.
One idiosyncrasy I noted on all 3 cars is that the outside buttons will program but the center one will not.
I use the one on the left closest to the driver for my opener.

My response yesterday seems to have gotten lost.
