Hit a hammer on the freeway :(

The noise made me cringe fearing the worst, as you can see it's not that bad for a hammer I want to know if the wheel is compromised in anyway that I would have to fix or replace it. Would the dealer charge me if I returned it like that at lease end?

I don't know about the lease but I'm sure someone who does will comment. That just sucks that it missed bouncing off the rubber by only an inch or so. Even if you were responsible, I would not replace the wheel but instead have it repaired, since it seems to be largely cosmetic (assuming no structural crack, whch I doubt).

Doesn't look that bad to me. I have had success filing down and sanding areas that are chewed and raised, but that looks like a small chip. Never leased a car, but I think you might get away with that. Either way I wouldn't do anything other than wait to see if you get away with it, or get more rash before turn in.

Thanks for the replies...The freeway is crazy with the hazardous stuff lying around. I'm all paranoid now. Someone else actually hit the hammer and it was bouncing towards my car couldn't avoid it

any time I have leased the saying was "no damage bigger than a credit card". Now, that may have changed in the past several years.

They will charge you on the lease return for sure. Just have the wheel repaired and you should be in good shape. I have had it done to a wheel here in Canada and it was 200 all in. Not to much considering it could have been a lot worse.

I believe 500-750 depending on area and some other factors forgiven in damages. Which they do not fix before reselling, except sometimes rims in your case. Wouldnt worry too much about it. Unless the ride is affected then it shouldnt bother you.

I drove over a wrench on the side of a main street in the third lane and it shot up into the cover of the underbelly. Pulled over thinking some serious damage but it was just stuck halfway out of this odd shield under the body. Thankfully..

I have had wheels repaired as new for about $150 CDN and they look like new.
Lease companies here would likely want to charge for a new wheel and then will likely get it fixed.
Might be best to get it fixed before you turn it back but I guess you can ask before you do.

Looks like a pretty good size chunk was taken out of the wheel. When they repair them are they able to add material back in or just sand them down?

Yes. This looks like an aluminum/painted wheel similar to what I had on my 2003 W211. They will add aluminum alloy, turn it on a lathe and polish it and check for runout etc. before painting.

At least the damage is not as bad as I thought it would be . It looks like a curb damage at 1st glance .
Having it repaired should be cheaper fix than return it with that condition .

I take mine to Discount Tire here in TX. They take the wheel off, put on my doughnut and send the wheel off. $70 to make the wheel like new and it's ready in 1 to 2 days.

Just Google wheel repair.

Wow! That's a bit less than half of what I pay in Vancouver.
