Tire Question

This past weekend while driving on the highway went over a pothole. It felt like a hard hit but I didn't get a flat or lose air. When I got home I noticed a one inch tear in the sidewall rubber and a nick in the wheel. Anyone have any thoughts on whether the tire needs to be replaced?

Yes; most definitely. If you have a bubble or tear in your tire the question is *when* and not *if* you will have a blow out. I had this happen to me twice two winters ago and both time I needed a new tire. Each tire + labor came out to $220 both times. At one point there were so many tire damaged vehicles that my dealership ran out of tires and had to get a bunch overnighted to them. That was a rough winter.

Sidewall damage cannot be repaired. The tire must be replaced.

Not only does it need to be replaced but I wouldn't drive on it at all and certainly not on the highway. Imagine a blowout at 60 mph.

Put a spare on it and drive it to your local garage.
