Can a Comfort Box be purchased and installed separately?
Just found out about this today and it seems useful. My car didn't come with it, is it possible to buy it and install it yourself, has anyone done it?

As far as I know, none of the W212s come with these as standard items but I doubt not being an ABS , that box could fail to handle heavy loads .
You can also consider of installing these :
I am using this very item on my car and it's very useful and helps all the stuffs keep intact lol
If you like , you can easily take it off as well
Below is another crate I bought but I haven't used it on my car yet . Being a collapsable , you can easily fold it down therefore it takes up no space but there is a snag you need to fix it , it doesn't come with retaining clips or bands

This is not new - it was available for the 2011 model year and perhaps before. You can order it through your dealer. I'm guessing it is a simple install but I suspect that the price the dealer sells it at includes installation. It and other such conveniences are part of the MB accessories.

My newly delivered 2012 E350 has the comfort box option. It is nice as it folds and slides away so that no significant trunk space is compromised.
Not sure I would have ordered it but the car has it and it seems very practical.

it's nice but i still need to think about it even at quarter of the msrp. it takes up a bit of the space on the top which i think most of the people don't care but the little hump in the back plus the comfortable box will make the back a little shallower. my golf bag might not fit in there or i'll have hard time to put it in/take it out. however, i can toss around my $8 crate or even leave it home if i need more trunk space .

Got one with our car. It's great for what it is, and I think it was $240 on the sticker if I'm not mistaken.
As noted, it takes a lot of space in the trunk. So when we take a long trip or need more room in the trunk I take the comfort box out. It has 2 switches to turn then it just comes right out. There are 2 holes in the frame structure behind the back seat that it "plugs" into, and then the 2 fasteners.
I would think every E is set up to use this. Check on a dealer lot if there is one installed and you will see how easy it is to put it in and also take it out.

your car has it doesn't mean you didn't pay for it . check your window sticker/invoice and hope you don't see that on the list but they added it in by accident .
Actually, I only paid 38% of the MSRP of $290. The E350 is leased with 62% residual! For less than $120, I think it makes sense.

I bought a separate comfort box from the dealer parts store after I purchased my car because it was not included with the car. I believe I got it for $200 from the dealer(some discount).
To be honest though, it might be useful at first, but later on you will realize that you cant really use it for anything. I mainly use my hooks that is in the trunk of the car now.
