Question about tint laws

So got my 550 tinted today, first time ive ever gotten one of my cars done. Guys did an amazing job but turns out the limit in MN is 50%, which hardly looks like anything...Are there any ways around this? IE going to another state, getting tinted, and coming back? Or am i just stuck with what i got.....

What state you had it done in has no effect on the law. Whats legal in your state can get you a ticket in another.

While I appreciate tinting as a comfort issue, or even a style one, I can understand tough laws on it.

I would not want to be a cop approaching a heavily tinted car with the driver's window up. He would have no way to know what is going on inside --- guy with a hand gun?? We've had a cop murdered in this area in that exact situation.

Some cops will use the megaphone to order everybody out and the doors open on a traffic stop. Some will even call for backup.

Like when they called for backup while pulling over Batman?

To the OP -- How high above 50% is your tint? That's likely going to be the determining factor. I doubt you'd have issues if it was a bit off. Otherwise they might throw the book at you if it annoys an officer pulling you over for whatever reason.

So does that means it blocks out only about 15-20% of the light passing through?

Are our factory factory glass panels 100% UV? I thought they offered some UV protection but I don't think it is 100% because of reports of some of the W212 wood discoloring... Woudl be nice to know how much UV protection we get...

I got 50% put on, which was the most the shop here would do. But rolling around last night i passed numerous cars who's windows were darker then mine, obviously way more so then 50%....

This won't be the last car you tint. You will realize very soon how much nicer it is sitting inside the car compared to a car without tint. You can probably go a shade darker without getting hassled by the police. 50% is so light.

I see why we have tint laws......but it pisses me off that the police (around here) have the windows SOOO dark.....

double standard *******.........

it's okay for them but not for us.........not that I could see why anyone would even need that much tint......
I always laugh at the dudes with the windows rolled down at night because they can't see!!!

Just a thought. Here in New York (my own experience) marked police cars have factory tint. As with everything in the world today there are exceptions.
Two types of police cars that have "dark" tint windows are:
1) undercover (Detective, Street Crime, etc.. The tint protects the officers' identity.);
2) marked police cars with canine. (The tint helps to keep the animal cool.)

Correct. Nothing offers 100% UV protection but automotive glass blocks about 90% as evidenced by the fact that Transition glasses don't work in the car.

You can easily match the dark tint heat rejection by using a good 60% ceramic tint like Huper Optik.
