Awesome Cruise control features, who knew!!???
I admit this with great embarassment BUT..... i was driving from NJ to New York for fathers day yest and used the cruise control. I was delighted to see that if you tap the control up or down you can lock into 5mph increments. The BEST part is if you slow down from say 75-60 you can feel the car either downshift or brake, versus typical cruise control that just lets the car coast to the lower speed. again, i never knew this and i think its beyond cool

For me, the best part is that when you're going down a big hill, you can set the cruise to the speed you want, and it'll keep the car at that speed, momentum and gravity be darned.
If you live in a hilly or mountainous area, this is spectacular.

I knew that thanks to the manual but good thing you mentioned about this
I normally don't use it but a useful feature surely

This is also useful if you live in an area where the cops like to radar at the bottom of hills.

One slight tap = 1 MPH change; one harder push = 5 MPH change. Also pull toward you to resume and push away to cancel is nice feature.
One thing is that you can stop the car and pull for resume and it goes back to where you set it. Some cars cancel out if car stops or drops below about 30 MPH.
Number one benefit of cruise control? Eliminates traffic tickets for speeding.
Number two benefit? Increases MPG.

yeah, I'm still working up plans for a surface to surface missle system for my 550![naughty](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/naughty.gif)
people here in NC REALLY do not know what the left lane is for.....and we have no minimum speed limit either...so that helps very little....I realize not all drivers have the CC, but DAMN......come on!!!

Love cruise control on MB too! Not sure if this has been reported but have you tried this (you already know the first 3) -
1) Pull forward to lock in current speed.
2) Push back to Cancel
3) Pull forward again to lock at speed you were locked before
4) THIS IS IMPORTANT - After a cancel (2) - Pull DOWN to lock in current speed and not speed you were locked before.
I am sure its in the manual, but who reads TFM.
Here is what I mean. Lets say you are on a highway, and cruise at 65. You take an exit, so push back to cancel. Now you are on a 35 MPH road. If you pull forward, you are in trouble. This time just push DOWN and it will lock you to your current speed.

i don't think using cruise control always gets better fuel economy...
i drive on the freeway a lot, and i constantly check my rpm as well...
when i control the speed manually, i can sometimes pull my foot off the gas whenever i see fit, letting the rpm goes down. if i use cruise control, the rpm maintains at the same level...
for example, going downhill, the cruise control puts on a little brake or downshifts, making the car maintain at the same speed. but if i do it manually, i will just pull my foot off both the gas and brake letting the car go (if there's no cops waiting at the bottom of the hill). i would think my method saves a little bit more gas than cruise control...

EVen the W211 has this. If you pull the lever down enough and the engine breaking is not enough to slow the car down, it will actually apply brakes. I often use the cruise control stalk to slow the car down when I see traffic slowed ahead and it slows down the car very gently. Especially nice when you are out on a date and want to drive very gently

And if you push up I think it will add speed to the setting you had before slowing down.
