Command System
Any suggestions for learning this system. After one week and hours of reading
manuals, I'm still lost. Wish there was a video

You can individually adjust volume levels for each input such as phone, DVD ,CD .
You can enter engineering mode but if something goes wrong it will really go wrong this is why I recommend you not dare it lol

It would also help if you were more specific. Your question is akin to asking the board "Something is wrong with my car. Can someone help me?" What are you trying to do? Some parts of the system are straightforward, but others, like pairing a phone or some aspects of Navi, are not.

as I try new settings.
I found a u-tube instructional for the C class command system that was very
helpful. Looking for something similar for the W212. Have watched all MB videos.
Thanks to all those willing to help

Now a more specific question. When I choose a destination, it takes me over
a toll bridge that I wish to avoid.[ I've checked avoid toll roads]
How do I choose an alternate route?
My previous Lexus GPS always gave me several routes from which to choose.
Also--very stupid but how do you turn radio off and leave Nav on. Seems like using mute button doesn't really turn it off.
Be gentle-I'm a senior.

while it is showing you the route its taking you on, press down on the control wheel, then scroll left to "route" and press down. then it shows you options such as detour, and alternate route. if you click alternate route you can cycle through several other routes. And as far as i know all you can do is mute it =/

No stupid questions

I go to Audio screen and select Memory Card (says No Device Connected) and then go back to Nav screen. Could also select CD changer if no CD's loaded.
BTW, I have no idea what a Memory Card is.
I read my manuals for car and COMAND, made notes in them and also made "cheat sheets" to keep in the car.
Biggest criticism of German cars is how complicated and non-intuitive the electronics are.
Enjoy the car, but be careful when driving. Many times found myself staring at the screen, manuvering the wheel or giving voice commands - and then realized I had travelled some distance without looking out windshield!

Thank you. Good suggestion for both radio off and watching road. It's already happening to me. Glad to hear it's not intuitive. Couldn't agree more

You could do what I did when I first got my car. Sit in it while parked when you have some time (weekend, evening, etc.). Power and/or engine on, listen to some good music and just try different features. I had the manual with me as well and this proved to be quite efficient for me to get comfortable with the various features. Might even have had some wine during the experience. (No, did not go driving - just sat in my driveway).

Ive got a specific question as well...
Is there a way to set the volume of the music independent of the navigation volume?
On my Audi A4, there are seperate controls and you can set how much the music fades out when the navigation speaks. I know on the MB, you can turn up the navigation volume by adjustint it while it's speaking, but the music "behind" the nagivation speakign is still very loud, it doesn't fade away enough.

to start engine. Apparently a lot of power is used playing music and fooling around with features. Seems like less than 1/2 hour. So much fun though that
I may have lost track of time

On mine, if I just have power on, it shuts down in about 15 minutes or so. Display says "COMAND shutting down." Guess it saves the battery, but very frustrating if trying to load CD into memory or when I paired my Bluetooth phone.
If you load CD's into Music Register, be careful about selecting "new folder" or "folder one" (I think) or an existing folder. If let it do it by itself, it may load it into "Various" and then you have lots of CD's under Various and have to open it to see what they are. May even have 3-4 various folders.
Generally does this if the CD has multiple artists on it rather than just one person/group.

Using the same buttons set the navigation volume when the Nav "lady" is speaking.

Huh? I don't think you understood what my question was.
On my Audi, I can go into Settings and set how loud I want the music playing while the navigation is talking, I can set it very low or medium...so when the nav lady speaks, the volume fades out to the pre-set level I chose.

On mine, the audio goes off when the navigation voice (Eva) comes on. When nav voice goes off, audio comes back on. Didn't set it; just has always done that.
