Would like to see that pic too. What size front/rear are you planning and will they be staggered?

Not to be a samarta**, but if they are e63 replica wheels, just look at pictures of a E63, to see what they will look like on the car. Same body.

My wheels are pretty the same thing, silver/machined vs. grey/machined. They are replicas, so might be slightly different, but fairly close.

The OEM E63 wheels like this are only in 18". I am hoping to get a look at them in 19".

Gottcha, thought you were sticking with 18's. I have amg replica's in 20's and Yosheego has the same wheels as mine in 19's, so take a look at our's, might give you a idea, but not exact. Just go to our personal page and click on our photos. We are both lowered, just to let you know, but I think that the wheels that you want will look great on your car. Check with Yosheego or ThreeMbs for proper tire size on 19's. Good luck.

They are W211 E63 Replicas. The C63 ones don't have tapered spokes.

As 18" standard wheels on E63, I don't think they look good; too small.
Don't know if genuine AMG make those in 19".

E-Class S212 2013
I have those rims on my car, a 2013 S212.
Back 9.5" ET35 275/30 R19
Front 8.5" ET35 245/35 R19

If i could choose again i would put 9" on the back with the same tire to protect the rim more.. It's easy to scratch the edge on the rim.

See attachments.

I love those wheels, btw. Looks outstanding. Whats the deal with staggered wheels on the 4matic? I've read (but don't completely understand the rationale behind) other threads and they imply the differential is going to be upset with a staggered setup. I would think it has to do with outer diameter versus width. I can't see any problem per your wheel sizing, so it looks like you found the magic combo there with the 30 rear 35 front.

Can anyone verify the acceptable tolerance/risk of using this particular setup on a 2013 E350 4matic sport wagon?

TIA,
Bob

I think you have the basic idea of the risk.

There are 2 issues with playing with wheel/tire size and they both depend on changes in overall wheel diameter (ie: wheel diameter plus rubber sidewall thickness):

(1) Speedometer - if you change wheel size from OEM, some folks don't think of the effect that a larger wheel/tire combo has on the speedometer. Think of it this way, larger overall diameter means that one 'revolution' of the tire actually covers more distance than stock. However, since speedo is based on revolutions of tires it will underestimate your speed.

(2) AWD systems (which is what you were getting at): Most AWD systems (4Matic, X Drive, Quattro, etc) depend on figuring out which wheels have traction and which ones don't. They do that, again, by figuring how much extra 'spin' each wheel has.

The problem with *some* staggered set ups is that drivers get wider tires on the back without thinking of overall wheel/tire diameter - which means the tires on the back are overall larger than on front. As I pointed out above, that means they spin more.

AWD system recognizes the extra spin and thinks there is a traction problem (like you are in a bit of snow/sand/etc) and so overcompensates.

The theoretical risk is, I suppose, that AWD will send too much power to front wheels, burn out, etc, etc, etc. Never had this happen personally (or to anyone I know) but...that's because we were aware of problem.

Its easy to avoid, even with staggered setup: just make sure the overall diameter of wheel/tire is the SAME front and back with staggered set up. As you note, that just means finding the right combination of tire width/aspect ratio.

Attached is a little example I created using the calculator at 1010tire.com when I bought some M3 wheels for my 328. OEM wheels were 205/55 R 16. These are 19" rims with 8.5 width front and 9.5 width rear. On an M3, these would, I believe, come with 245/35 R19 and 265/35 R19 rubber on them. While those are close enough to each other, they are WAY out of the 328 stock and would mess up the speedo.

SO i had to go with a 225/35 R 19 and 255/30 R19 combo to make them fit each other AND the original OEM wheels.

...and that is what i have to say about that.

EDIT: Here is more specific info about what damage results from different sized wheels and AWD systems from Tire Rack

Thanks.

Looking forward to seeing what other wagon owners are putting on their cars.

I will probably wait a year before I think about another set of wheels, tho.

Thanks again for the detail.
