Interesting AC issue on 2011 E350

After about 30 minutes of driving on the on the highway at about 75-80mph, the volume of air coming out of the two AC vents for the driver dropped significantly and the temperature went to luke warm. I am in Houston and the outside temp was about 95degF. I did NOT have the AC on Zone - it was on Auto with temp set to about 68 deg F. What was interesting is that the air coming out of the right two vents and the back seat vents was fine blowing hard and cold. Only the two driver side vents were cut back and warm. I put the system on Zone and increased PASSENGER side temp and it actually reduced volume and increased temp on DRIVER side. This continued until we reached our destination about 20 minutes later. Parked car and let it sit for a couple hours. Drove home with AC on AUTO (no ZONE) with temp at 70 deg F and didn't experience the issue again. I will monitor before taking into dealer, but anyone else experience this or any thoughts as to why this happened? I know 68 is cold, but why would it only cut back driver side and not the entire unit? If I was 'freezing' the unit up, the air out of all vents would have been warm, correct?
