2014 E-Class Renderings
Excerpt: Renderings of the 2014 Mercedes-Benz E-Class mid-cycle face lift have made their way to the web and we love what we see. Mercedes-Benz won’t limit changes to just the headlights, the grille, and the bumpers; the sheetmetal will also be significantly altered as well. The pronounced sculpted rear fenders we’re now used to will be scrapped on the sedan and the station wagon. The coupe and convertible may retain their current side panels, setting them somewhat apart from the four- and five-door models. This distinction would be highly appropriate, as the two sets of body styles don’t share a platform; the E-class coupe and convertible use a combination of C- and E-class underpinnings.

My biggest complaints are (I don't wanna say woe lol ) rendering (they're literally rendering the following ) the quad lights , the shape of the trunk lid (upper side where the MB logo is inserted ) and ponton fenders
Honestly, I like it though

Might as well get a Hyundai and pocket the change, not to mention Acura and Infiniti.
Personally, I like the Ponton reference line on the rear quater panel.
With the introduction of the "A" and soon the "B" and the CLA to America, M-B is cheapening the brand and making it less distinctive.

The rear lights look really plain, more-so than the current generations on the Sedan (they look good on the Wagon who has taillights shaped more like the new generation GL), but I think I see those W126 (70's/80's) era "ridges" which I like the ideal of..... The W212 already touched on that look, and it looks like the facelift might go further into it. I'm just not sure about the execution, based on the renders.
The Best of Mercedes & AMG
The competition, i.e. 5 series and A6, is already bland. Why on earth would MB want to go that route? The success of the E is based in part on its looks. It certainly isn't based on HP and fuel economy stats.
It if ain't broke, don't fix it.

Homogenizing it with the homogenized Mid-Size Sedan segment is like them simply wanting to play it as carefully as possible.
Problem is, the 5 and A6 were designed from the ground up to be simple looking cars, the E was designed to be complex. Trying to make complex into bland/simple will make it kind of like a "bandaid", not as elegant or "easy on the eyes" as the 5/A6, and not as individual as it originally was intended to be. Case in point: The line that used to be the Ponton will now be some weird broken-line, i.e it'll nonsensically look like one line is placed low, then breaks, then continues higher up on the car.
Can't we have a clean, flat and classy looking instrument panel like the 5 series.
The taillights are hideous.

Don
The rear still need to be revamped. I like the rest of this render, more elegant as a Benz should be. Hope the real lci has more muscularity and yet still elegant. On the other hand, the BMW f10 is understated but yet muscular.
