Not sure how old you are - but guessing 30ish. How have you been making calls (or checking emails) all these years when you are away from home - road trips, vacations, hotels, etc.? Pay phones?

Not to speak like an old fart but before we had cell phones, life still goes on, just not as convenient. payphones and disinfectant wipes were necessity, mail came through post office, Thomas guide instead of GPS, and we still get around just fine!

Got my first cell phone in 94 (Motorola Startac) and that changed my world.

Depends. Decide on a vendor (carrier) first and what features you want.

Will you want lots of minutes or is it just for occasional use?

I've dumped my landline a few years ago and have my google voice number going to my cell and office numbers.

Tell us what you expect to use the phone for (and how many minutes a month) and we'll advise you better.

With few exceptions, there is no necessity to be connected 24/7

haha, I'm 37.......
and in the past I have used hotel phones, my wife has always had one, friends, email at libraries and hotels while out of town, but also have a laptop now(wifes).......
the biggest reason NOW is my daughter started preschool and I guess I need to be reachable for an emergency......in case....
even yesterday when I was in an accident I didn't need one because of the SOS button in our cars.....
don't exactly want to be teathered to my house by the phone......

during school hours....I couldn't imagine needing it for much else.....
I don't want to be: like this.....this isn't my type of everyday music, but the point he makes is very right on...

Then I'd get a Pay as you go phone that connects up to your car. Leave it plugged in and forget that it is there unless it rings.

Get yourself a Google Voice number and give that to the school. That way it doesn't matter where you are - they can find you.

If your wife has a personal cell phone then she should be able to add you to it as a family plan using the same minutes she has for about $10 a month.

If Sprint has good coverage in your area then look at Boost or Cricket, otherwise look for Verizon or AT&T "Pay as you go" versions.

I respect the iphone for what it does but I could never own one because it doesnt have keys. I love my blackberry but it is missing the "newest stuff". If apple decides to put keys on their phone and get rid of the stupid touchscreen, I'll be right there! I would get so frustrated texting on an iphone and messing up every word because of my larger fingers.

Get a phone whose provider has excellent service in your area. That is most important. In my case it is U.S. Cellular. They do not market nationwide but their phones work everywhere. They are #1 in service here.

I got my phone from a U.S. Cellular company store. The kid at RadioShack or Best Buy sells you the phone that has the most "spiff", (he makes the most money on). The store I use have real techs that can diagnose your phone and provide a loaner if needed. When I updated my phone the salesman went outside with me to pair the phone to the MB. He offered to and says he does it all the time for customers. It is unlikely you will get this kind of service from a big box store.

Preschool huh? In a year or 2 she is gonna be asking for an iPhone to keep up with all the other kiddies.

And the clever marketing folks at AT&T and Verizon will he happy to assist you with a family share plan.

Last week our family was on vacation - we packed 4 iPhones, a MacBook Pro, and an iPad. Wireless is the new crack cocaine.

had no idea they can be that expensive lol.........Nokia PureView doesn't come easy eh?
seems like a nice one.......but then the Lumia 800 is even more!
I learned something new today.........

still confused though,
seems like it would be a good choice for smartphone for easier use with my cars?

I am using Nokia N8 and only reason is it's got 12MP lol
Well, I am doing search for you hyper . I deleted smarthpone options but let me remind you something since NTG 4.5 and updated NTG 4 can enable Bluetooth Audio , you will like and enjoy having a phone in your car
In other thing I wanna know , if Bluetooth Audio works with smarthones in other words how about regular standard phone w/o operating system can support Bluetooh Audio ?
However, in my earlier message you can see a link where it can show compatible phones as their functions , they should work since it's bluetooth related

If you think these Nokias I talked about are expensive which they are lol , then try Nokia C2 or Nokia C1 .
I am not into their styling but these are way cheaper than Iphone and other rivals

I have got a new link for you to see and compare :

http://www.nokia.com/us-en/products/products/

I may look like a Nokia fan but Iphone and Android apps can blow out Nokia's products

MB Embrace offers many cool options with Iphone though like remote control your car by your phone as well

Go to WalMart and see what they have in the prepaid phones. you pay for you minutes and refresh as needed. they use the same networks as the Big Three -- AT&T, Verizon and Sprint.

Which is why it sells so well to the masses - but that doesn't make it a good phone.

The Tickle-me-Elmo phone requires a special cable from MB ($360.00). There have been reported issues with Voice commands, as COMMAND has trouble understanding Elmo's speech impediments. I would just get the idiot-proof iPhone. Mine works great in the car.
