Wanted to add a comment - I did this today using a Wix 49357 filter. It was a no-go. The Wix would not seat completely, upon a closer look the base is slightly smaller than the OEM filter I pulled out. I've never had any issue with Wix oil/air filters until now, but I put the OEM unit back in there until I get the Mann filter. Very aggravating. At least the OEM at 36k miles was pretty clean but I do want to replace it as part of my DIY B service.

"C" Clamps

Just one small correction to your replacement of the cabin air filter. The small "C" clamps located on the sides of the cabin air filter are not replaced after you put in the new filter. MB only puts them on at the factory but if you read the MB instructions from the MB web-site which I got from a MB tech it says they do not need to be replaced after the first filter change and can be discarded once you get the first factory installed filter out. They are only used because when the entire air handling unit is installed in the car during the build process, the "C" clamps are used to keep the filter in place and to make sure the filter is in there tight so there is no chance of a rattle issue. Check it out with your local MB service Dept., they'll tell you the same thing. Good luck.

+1. Took mine to an Indy for service B. Afterwards, heard a whistling, almost like a teaketttle, which got louder as the fan sped up. Instead of going back, I took it apart myself, and sure enough one of the tabs on the white sliding piece was not affixed to the filter. Problem solved. Couple of notes:

- there were no clips inside the filter housing
- it appeared the Indy just pulled out the vent temp sensor vs unplugging. This was fine, except they didn’t put it back in properly. Fixed.
- the order for me was unscrew the panel, fold down carpet, take out panel

Took about 50 minutes and a lot of that was spent on me trying to get the white piece back on without putting it on the filter before installing. Once I figured that out, it really was a pretty simple job.

And this is why I do not use independents.
