Recent problem with my E350...
Hey all,
Just wanted to drop by telling you all what happened yesterday to my beloved.
I was going somewhere, i put my key fob on the 3rd Ignition slot, and put some music on for my kid, i was taking my other car out as it was late at night, a few minutes later once i come back, i see "Please turn ignition off otherwise the command unit will shut down in 3 minutes"
I immediately turned the ignition on, and then...
I waited a few minutes, but my Command System wont come on.
My entire car started malfunctioning.
I turned it off and took the key out.
A few minutes later the alarm starts ringing. I turn the ignition on, and this time NO LIGHTS come on in the car!
Then suddenly my sunroof opens, my doors lock themself, the lights (reading) come on, i try turning everything normal but nothing avail.
then on the Instrument Cluster i get two messages -
"Restraint System malfunction. See User Manual"
"ABS and ESP unavailable. Consult workshop."
I was going to give my car for servicing the next day, because it was overdue by 900km.
Then the ignition turned off by itself, so i thought i shoudl try turning it on, but now, nothing happens.
the entire car was dead.
the lights in the entire car were on, and wouldnt shut, the car would not unlock/lock.
so i went and sat in my other car and called up Mercedes Benz Roadside Assistance, and well, they sent a technician over.
The lights in the entire car were dimming, and half the lights were on, half were dim, half were completely on, etc.
I was freaking out, then finally an hour later the technician arrived.
It seemed to be a dead battery, but i still dont understand the malfunctions and the lights going bizarre.
The car has been sent for servicing, but im just wondering why did all this happen? Specially from a German Make?
This has NEVER happened to any of my other cars.
Any suggestions?
The workshop says my car will be back on Wednesday, so i'll have to wait.
What do you all think?

mot of those faults are probably due to low battery voltage. With a full charge on a good battery and the codes clear via SDS your car should be back to normal.
For future reference, you can still turn on the radio without the key in the ignition.

When low voltage situation occurs, readings go way off. Anyway, you problem is no problem. You'll be back to normal in no time. Just make sure what caused battery to drain like that.

Got a call from my dealer, they are replacing the battery. I am not in town so i dont get to see my car for a few days.
But my son will go and get the car, anyways.
They said the cause of the battery being discharged was because i did not drive the car for 4 days
But whatever, its fixed now...

Sorry , I got no help but I am happy it seems to have been fixed . I don't buy the idea of battery discharge for not driving it for 4 days , I didn't drive mine 3 days straight but it started right up a few months ago

I have left mine at the airport for a couple weeks and it started right up when I returned. Something is up. Have the dealer check the electrical system.

4 days standing is nothing. I have left mine at airport for two weeks several times and almost every week for 5 - 6 days and never had an issue with drained battery. Either the battery is bad, you have an alternator problem or there is something pulling way too many amps when the car is sitting.

There is a TSB for E class machines emptying the battery overnight because some software glitch leaves a fan running all night when it shouldn't. At least that's the story I got from my dealer when my battery died at 1.5 years, 15,000 miles, after sitting overnight.
There is also a TSB regarding the big electric cooling fan, of certain mfgrs and vintages, draining the battery.
