looks a lot like the newer Jaguar sport coupes......not that it's all bad......
I have never had the chance to drive an electric car......
it is neat how there is no exhaust, no radiator, no grill, no engine etc......
good luck with it

Why would you want a huge car to crawl around the city. At some point in time you want to find parking and that thing is too big.
It is too stout to replace the ML and it spreads too many features and skips the ones drivers will notice.
Take that battery pack and put it under 3 body types. SL convertible, B-class, delivery van. Then maybe we are in business. But really what I desire is something a Thunderbirds fan would understand (the tv show not the American classic).
I want a drivetrain that I can have 3 body shells for and just swap bodies on a whim. I know I'm dreaming.

My Bluetec has an 800 mile range on the highway and can be "recharged" in about 5 minutes at any one of about 2 million "charging stations" nationwide. How about the Telsa?

Not for everyone, but....
LOS ANGELES -- Tesla Motors is creating a network of 100 solar-powered fast-charging stations for its electric vehicles nationwide by the end of 2015.
The fast-chargers will be able to deliver three hours of highway driving range with a 30-minute charge. The service is available for free to Tesla owners.
Tesla CEO Elon Musk said the total cost of the stations will be between $20 and $30 million for the entire network.
Each station will have between four and six charging ports and be located at key highway rest stops near established restaurants, Musk said.
Tesla secretly developed four stations in Southern California, and unveiled them operationally late Monday night. Two more will go online in early October, with the web expanding to Las Vegas, northern California and Oregon by next summer, Musk said.
Musk said similar sized networks will be placed in Europe and Asia starting next summer.

Within two years, most of the U.S. will be covered, with the following time being used to backfill areas, so that eventually stations are no more than 200 miles apart.
Musk said similar sized networks will be placed in Europe and Asia starting next summer.
For owners of other brand electric vehicles -- and even the original Tesla Roadster -- the superchargers will only work with Tesla Model S and future Tesla models. That is because the 100-kilowatt charging current is too powerful for lesser battery packs, Musk said.
The stations will get their power from solar panels mounted overhead, courtesy of Musk's sister company, Solar City.
The panels will generate more power than charging cars can draw, so on a net basis, the stations will add to the electrical power grid even if cars are charging at night or in cloudy weather.
"We are giving Model S the ability to drive almost anywhere for free on pure sunlight," Musk said.
Competitive challenge
A network of fast-charge devices on U.S. highways is a way to overcome the problem of limited range, one of the challenges automakers cite for battery-powered cars. Tesla wants to become profitable as early as next year from sales of its $57,400 Model S and by supplying battery packs and motors to investors Daimler AG and Toyota Motor Corp.
The company's goal is to deliver at least 20,000 Model S sedans next year and achieve a gross profit margin of more than 25 percent, Musk told Bloomberg Television on Sept. 21.
Tesla said it aims to install superchargers in busy traffic corridors across the U.S., "enabling fast, purely electric travel from Vancouver to San Diego, Miami to Montreal and Los Angeles to New York."
Lowered forecast
Separately, Tesla Motors today cut its revenue outlook for the third quarter because of supplier shortcomings and other delays in accelerating production of the Model S.
The company said in a regulatory filing that it expects to generate $44 million to $46 million in third-quarter sales, compared with the $83.1 million average of 12 analyst estimates compiled by Bloomberg.
Musk last week in an interview declined to confirm that the company will deliver 5,000 of its Model S sedans this year. Tesla now expects to deliver 200 to 225 Model S cars in the third quarter and 2,500 to 3,000 in the fourth. Tesla forecast that gross margin will turn positive in the fourth quarter as production accelerates.
"As our main focus is on quality, we have methodically increased our Model S production at a rate slower than we had earlier anticipated," the company said in the filing. "Certain suppliers have experienced delays in meeting our demand and we continue to focus on supplier capabilities and constraints."
The company added that it's making an all-new car "with new employees using new equipment." Tesla now forecasts full-year revenue of $400 million to $440 million, down from $560 million to $600 million.

You may be interested in the fact that there is no radiator in the true sense of the word, but actually there are no less than 3 "heat exchangers" that run across the front end of the vehicle. It is more similar to a "normal" car than you would think from the heat/cool aspect of it.

We never drive my car out of town, when we travel we always take my wife's SUV. We have been thinking about moving up to a M350 next year too.
I have been looking for a new car for a year now and I couldn't find a good one.
Of course when I test drive it I may not like it. But the E Class main competitors just don't do it for me so this car is worth a look. I think the Performance model is the one I want.

Well, There's no doubting that electric cars are becoming more and more popular and part of the automotive industry...and, things are really going to take off in the next couple of years with them. We'll all be driving them...For sure.

That's mostly correct. The initial Model S package was supposed to be 300 miles but the EPA rated it at around 265. Still pretty good. There will be other options available with 100 and 200 mile battery packs. For a lot less money of course.

I have read funny comments on Tesla's electromechanical engines . Well, more correctly the way they sounds lol I can't say I dislike them at all lol

In person it doesn't look that big, and length to width proportions look good. It's longer than an E-class, shorter than S-class, and wider than both by a good margin. I think Csaba Csere mentioned it's a big car relative to the Tesla Roadster.
If I were in the market I'd definitely consider it. Obviously, if I had to drive around 250 miles a day I'd think twice.

Lets face it. The French are going to bring tiny little city cars into the market no bigger than a bicycle. They will sell tens of millions of them till the lithium runs out.
You do realise that there are insufficient quantities of battery metals to power every car in the world on batteries. Not withstanding, iPhones/iPads have free navigation so why do I need an LCD of any kind in the car.
They missed a perfect opportunity to have the worlds first Android powered car. Something to compare with Mercedes Benz + Apple alliance or the VW + google alliance.
I can think of 30 things in the Tesla which are ****-backwards. Retro before it even became commercially available.

In person the Model S has very nice proportions, beautiful styling, and loads of interior space. The <300 mile version is $90K+. This car is only good for 125 mile max radius so whether or not it's a good cruiser is a moot point. I bet it will be a good 'medium hop' ride with smoothness, power, and handling being excellent. This is not a 'road trip' car.

it's a nice car but the side profile looks very similar to a panamera. i like the door handles, though . why not a fisker karma? i think that looks much better than the tesla. here is the review:

The Karma evokes more emotion with its curves and bulges but IMO, in person it's a little cartoonish looking.
Think ambiguously g&y duo mobile.
Plus Fisker ran off to Finland with American dollars stuffed in their pockets.

So the fact that the Model S has a Mercedes Steering column made me Google their relationship. And it turns out that they have a very healthy relationship.
I wonder what other Mercedes parts/influence is in the Model S.
I also wonder how much Tesla Parts/influence is in the SLS E-Drive.
