Replaced Tweets In A Pillars
For those that halfway care what their stereo's sound like, I really believe this worth every penny. You will not regret this little minor modification in the slightest. Now granted the rest of the stereo sounds exceptional. The midbass/midrange area is phenominal to me. I've always thought the upper end extension and detail was lacking. Most high-end tweeters are too large and won't fit into these small a-pillars. I did my homework and felt I purchased the best tweeter for the size. It is an LPG 26NA, which is a 26mm Aluminum dome tweeter made in Germany. I've listened to countless high-end tweets of all kinds for many years and these are as good if not better than most I've listened to over the years. These tweeters are exceptionally smooth and detailed. I didn't expect that from a metal dome tweeter but these are smoother than many silk domes. Silks won't touch the detail of this puppy. Anyway with a little modification and I put a 2.2uf "audio grade" cap just for added protection on the positive and your good to go. Somehow this factory system I believe has an active crossover. They can be purchased from http://meniscusaudio.com/ for under 80 for the pair. Yes that's correct 80 dollars. These will outperfrom many tweeters costing several hundred dollars more. And no I'm not kidding!!!
Factory on left, LPG on the right.
Pod on the left has been modified to hold the aftermarket tweeter. Notice the difference.
This is how the tweet fits into the pod. I will fabricate some metal clips so they will easily snap into place.

These tweeters have really good off axis response. You will notice I did maintain some of the angle which puts the tweets aiming right about the inside shoulder of the person on the opposite side. The stock angle was so sharp, I'd put it somewhere about mid chest to the person from same side. The stock tweeter imaged really well, I think because they weren't just thrown in there, they did actually aim the things. However, these image even better, there is more of a balance. With the stock system I did have a +1 fade to the right (which everyone here may notice it needs as well), I was able to center it up with these new tweets and that's because of the off axis attenuation of the drivers side speaker versus the passenger. I also do a +7 fade to the front and no way do I use the crappy Logic7 processing.

just out of curiosity, rnbrad. how long will you keep the car ? it'll be heartbreaking when you move on to the next ride, especially after all the time and efforts that you spent on it .

Sorry, missed this post. As long as this car doesn't give me any major problems I expect to keep this car between 10 to 20 yrs or more. I'm not like most and those that know me know I never trade cars, I just keep them. I have an 89 truck with many hours of time and money. I've had it for 23yrs and never plan on parting with it at all. I still have my 04 w211. Same thing, love the car, always have always will. It's timeless and I just can't part with it and really feel in many ways it is superior to the w212. So I don't mind modding them adding some things that increase my enjoyment cause no doubt I will get my time and money's worth.

Thanks guys!! Yea those rims are off my 212. I really liked the looks of them and they bolted right up on the w211, so I thought what the heck.

Very nicely done. How much of a difference vs Oem? Would you say it is night and day?
