2010 E350 Not Going From Drive to Park
Got my 2010 E350 4Matic Certified Pre Owned a week ago at a MB Dealer in another city. Two days ago stopped on a driveway to park that had a steep incline. On the transmission control on the steering column I pushed the PARK button on the end and it would not go into park. I ended up turning off the car and when I opened the drivers door the transmission then went into Park by itself. Today I was in a flat parking lot and pushed the Park button and again it would not shift to Park until I opened the door. Is this normal or am I missing something? The car has 33,000 miles on it so it is under warranty and I can take to my local dealer if needed.

Yes have the dealer check it out. However, there have been threads where other forum members stated that if you forget to put the car in park, when you open the door the car will automatically shift into park. I have not been able to duplicate that scenario in my car.

My 2010 goes into neutral when I turn the engine off and then goes into park if I open the door, unless I have already placed it in park with button on shift lever (which I always do).

Ow
Absolutely a malfunction if it does not go to park when the button at the end of the stalk is pressed and car is not moving.
Check the little arrows in the gear selector display. The arrows show what gear shifts are possible at a given time, like possible to put it in park arrow should be lit when you are stopped but unlit when the car moves over certain slow speed, which I dont know the value for. If the arrow for switching to park is lit when you stop your problem could be a simple faulty button at the end of the stalk but if the arrow is not lit it could be something more complicated. Luckily it goes to park with the door opening.

Update to my issue:
Took the E350 to the dealer. They tested it and there was no signal from the steering column module to the shift module which was preventing the car from going into PARK sometimes when I pushed the park button.
They replaced the module inside the steering column and the issue was solved.
All under original warranty so no cost. I really like my E350 and in black it looks sweet.

Mine works just like the owner's manual states. The owner's manual is great source of information. It is often the first place that I look when I have questions about my car.
