Windshield Replacement

Just got the winshield of my Bluetec dinged on the Interstate the other day and the insurance company says they'll provide a genuine MB windshield as a replacement.Does anyone,by chance, have any idea how much they go for? Also, this is my first ever windshield incident and am wondering if,particularly with a premium brand replacement, are there any problems seen? Leaks, for example?

How bad is the damage?

If is is just a small "spider" have it repaired. It is free for you and if the repair is not acceptable you can have it replaced after that. Most insurance companies allow trying to repair first.

I had mine repaired a couple of month ago and it is fine.

Remember, you can have the same "ding" happen for the new windshield the next day it was installed...

My insurance company would not pay the dealer's quote, around $1100 as I recall. I have $0 deductible on glass claims. This should not affect your insurance rates, it is a comprehensive claim. I insisted on a genuine MB windshield and they did accommodate me through a glass company. They would not pay for the Mercedes Benz sticker in the passenger side lower corner. The installer skillfully removed it and transferred it to the new windshield. No leaks, no problems.

I think it is important for resale etc. to have the MB glass on a premium vehicle. Someone spots another one, no MB sticker etc. could raise a question. The driver's side has the OEM supplier info for the glass.

I have had many windshields and auto glass replaced in my driving lifetime and had very few problems.

I had to replace my windshield the first month I had my Bluetec. At the time, there were no third party replacements and mine was replaced with an OEM. It has been fine since done. No worries. Living in the north, I cannot believe this is your first windshield incident. With the salt and gravel and sand they dump on the roads during the winter, I just figure it is just a matter of time.

always best to go oem with windshields especially if its a lease, technically when you hand it back if theres no benz star the dealer could POSSIBLY deduct even thought when the take the car back they never seem to go into that much detail.
