Constantly whining

I leased this new 2011 E350 4M last Aug and while traveling to Atlanta this summer my wife pointed out a whine that’s just continued. I was in denial for two reasons, one she pointed it out and secondly it’s a MB. How common is this? Thanks.

My best guess would be tire noise. I have P Zero Nero's on my E350 and they are noisy. I Have read complaints about other OEM tires also. Try a search!

Tires and bad blacktop will do it. I changed to conti's and they have been quiet, but michelins are the best for quiet. I'm putting those on next.

Thanks the noise sounds more mechanical in nature. Not so much road noise. Its more pronounced at hwy speed?

I think the noise you talk about is tire noise. This car is very dissapointing in two qualities. One is intgernal rattles and the other is road/tire noise.

The "metallic" nature you mention is probably noise from the springs/shocks mounted without sufficient dampening between them and the car body.

I have had similar cars with Continental and Pirelli P-zero tires and they are equally as bad.

Only noise is tire noise

The only noise I hear on my 2010 is tire noise. Apparently MB does not insulate front quarter panels, wheel wells, etc. as well as other manufacturers. My Hyundai Azera was much better insulatedl and far quieter.
However, it is tire noise that I hear because it disappears on smooth roads.
Also, Michellin tires are much nosier than some other brands. They are known to be hard riding and noisy, but then get better wear and gas mileage (maybe). On other vehicles I have replaced Michellins with other brands and cars rode better and were quieter.
BTW, the only rattles I hear are when I open the sunroof after car has set in hot sun for a while.

The tire noise on my E350 with the P Zero Nero's was so bad I always thought something was wrong with the car. Very disturbing.

I have the same issue with my 2010 E350. I thought, and still do, that it was a tire issue. The whine appears only at 65 mph and higher. Long story short, after several trips to the service department they state that the noise is coming from the rear end. They've inspected the rear and determined that there aren't any mechanical issues.
If the noise continues (after the new tires wear down sufficiently) I will contact Mercedes directly.
