COMAND update
Had the COMAND in my car updated per TSB L182.70-P-051455 with a software update. Was having some problems with called party not hearing me clearly, occasional poor reception and lack of "bars" with phone. Also, VCS didn't always understand street names even though in system when I spelled them out.
Phone does seem to work better.
They also did a harness wiring per campaign.
However, I haven't really noticed any other changes. I thought the update was supposed to do a lot more. My car has a Nov. 2009 build date.
Anyone know what update is supposed to do?
Thanks,

I do not have problem with speaking street names and recognized but for some reason it can't recognize speaking numbers. The same problem appears for dialing numbers.

they probably and most likely won't give it to you by just asking. simply tell your dealer the "problems" el cid had and you are good . it'll take at least a day and most of the time couple days or longer. as for loaner, you can skip it. they have shuttle service .

The COMAND update runs from a disk. It took 1 1/2 hours when it was done to my previous car the 2011 E350. The mechanic told me it actually took only 45 min for the download to run.
This job is probably listed as a 1 1/2 h job in the books they have. This is what they would charge for if you would pay for it. This is what the dealer charge from MB when they do it as a warranty job.

Warranty
I believe they charge about $250 to do it if not warranty related.

A couple of months later I was doing some extensive traveling and added Sirius Traffic to my radio service. When they rebooted my system the mode/temp/fan etc appeared. So I think a reboot is in order.

After the dealer performed the upgrade I was unable to find the option to turn the AC/temp/fan speed info. It was not until the system was rebooted by Sirius did the upgrades show up. I am not suggesting that you have to use Sirius, what I am saying is the dealer must have forgot some step.
Let us know if you find the option in Engineering. Look for additional pages on each when you go through the system.
Good luck.

In enginering Menu first page go to "7. HW setting".
In HW Seting go to "7.7 HU Parameter"
In HU Parameter scroll to "Aircondition Satus" You do this by first scrolling down on the page an then pull the COMAND knob to get to the next page until you find "(30) Aircondition Status". Change the parameter from "off" to "advance".
After this press "Back" twice to get back to the first engineering menu page. At the last row pull COMAND knob bacward to get to the next page. Here select "System reset". It will re-boot with change you made. Now temp change should show at the bottom of the COMAND screen.

IMHO, Mercedes-Benz COMAND Navigation is a bad joke.

I do not know. I just saw it when my MB tech showed this to me.
You need to go in and see if you have it. When you go in you can exit from there selecting "END" instead of "RESET".
"END" just exits without making any changes.

Haven't seen anything on a COMAND update - may not apply to my (early) 2011 E550, but I can tell you that the COMAND Nav update took 2 1/2 hours to install! I had to start the car twice to keep the update from shutting down before completing.

Yes, the NAVI update takes 2 1/2 hours from the two disks it comes on. I just did mine last week and by the way, there is nothing wrong doing the update while driving. I did the first 1 1/2 hours and then rest of it sitting at home. The navigation update instructions recommend to do it when not driving but this most likely is another lawyer BS to save MB from law suits.
But, this is not what we are talking about here. The COMAND update we talk about is the system software update in the car, which also runs from disk and takes actually only about 45 minutes to do but your car will be in service 1 1/2 hours for it.

What I would like is to be able to have headlights, Fog lights and DRL's on at same time. Is this possible with the update to early 2010 models?
My car has the switch where you turn on headlights and then putt it out for fog lights. Also, has the round fog and DRL's.
Thanks,

Thanks, but while this would be nice, I can live without it, so being cautious about playing with the electronics.

I don't think MB would ever make this possible. Fog light have a special purpose just like DRLs have.
Fog light produces a very low light beam trying to eliminate any light reflection from fog. Any light pointing up reduces visibility in foggy conditions so why would they have the DRLs ON when running with fog lights?
DRLs are made to shine is wide angle in every direction so that the car can be seen by other road users and would severely impair visibility in foggy conditions. Good car visibility is the only safety aspect of the DRLs, looks of the car is not in their mind with this.
I don't think MB would ever agree to make a car with DRLs and fog lights ON at the same time.

Also, the regular headlights have to be on for the fog lights to be turned on so having the DRL's on would not interfere any more with visbility.
Have had cars in the past that permitted "parking" lights and fogs to be on at same time.
