Another W212 with Vossen CV3 wheels
I've been looking at so many wheels lately my head's been spinning. I wanted to get the Vossen CV5 but Vossen doesn't make the correct offsets for the w212 so I went with the CV3 (my second choice), in 20" staggered.
I know I know, per Hyperion667, Vossen CV3's are played out... but they still look decent to me and I haven't seen them on any cars in my area yet -- so they're not played out in my eyes. :D I just can't wait months for the CV5 to be available with no definite date from Vossen... I want them now. :zoom: I just got them installed today. Here's an early cell phone pic. I'll do a photoshoot with my SLR camera this weekend. http://www.jchanphotography.com/e350..._installed.jpg |
they look great! who cares what I think LOL..........:)
this is a great wheel for easy cleaning and seeing the calipers very well too........ they would look great plasti-dipped or powder coated too....:naughty: thanx for sharing:y |
johnc510, your car looks absolutely beautiful. Did you lower the car with H&R or Eibach springs? What's the offset and the tire size? Thanks in advance for sharing.

Though now I can see the stock calipers and rotors and they're looking a bit small and plain. :wall: Guess I'll be researching which calipers and rotors to get next. |

The wheels are 20x8.5 ET44 Fronts and 20x10 ET55 Rears. Tires are 245/30/20 fronts and 275/30/20 rears. I lowered the car around 2 weeks ago with H&R Springs. If you decide to do it, I posted a DIY write-up for it here: https://mbworld.org/forums/e-class-w...de-photos.html (Whoops.. just noticed some comments on there I haven't replied to).

looks very good, especially with those clear markers :y!

Looks awsome!
Waiting for the same wheels myself! :naughty: |
Would a 35 profile be too much tire for the wheel well? I understand going with 30 since they are 20' and it helps out with clearance. I imagine it must be a hassle though in pothole heavy cities/freeways. I've kinda noticed a lot of people using & recommending 30's on this forum too... I've always ran and considered 35 profile to be somewhat of a benchmark for ride comfort.

Hahaha. I figured I should get that out there before you had a chance to say they're played out. :smash: :D

A 245/30/20 & 275/30/20 is recommended by us for the W212 in 20x8.5/20x10 Looks Great John, congrats on the new wheels. http://www.jchanphotography.com/e350..._installed.jpg |

For the rears, the right size would be 285/25/20 as that's the closest in diameter to our stock rears. But I'm finding the 275/30/20 (about 4% bigger in diameter) works out perfectly... no rubbing whatsoever. In fact, I'm starting to think I should have went with 285/30/20 as the rims stick out a bit pass the tires and the tires look like they're a bit stretched. If you're concerned with potholes in the roads/freeways in your area, you might want to consider 19" wheels.

Johnc, how is the ride now on H&R compared to stock? Thanks for the info and the DIY. Greatly appreciated!

Looks amazing. Its called "classic" and you can't go wrong with the CV3 :)
|
looks awesome, i ordered the same wheels the other day. is your car lowered?

IMO the CV3's are 10x better than the CV5's.
Trying to go with something that is esoteric and not played out is overrated. You end up spending way too much money for a set that will cost a fortune to fix if it ever gets bent or badly curbed just for a little more cred from a bunch of dudes on the street or internet that you will likely never meet. If you want light wheels though, gotta have forged. |

Yes, the car had been lowered for around 2 weeks when the photo in my original post was taken.

If you want light wheels though, gotta have forged. The CV3s are actually not bad in weight at all. The wheel shop didn't have a scale I could use but going by my own 'lift with my hands and gauge' technique, they were pretty comparable in weight to this 3-piece forged wheel I was eyeing (Vellano). |
wow i love those rims, i wanted those but ended getting different ones i just got mines today 19" but im afraid how they going to look because i cant lower my car (im told) because the suspensions are those air ones.
