Feels great to have put on big rubber

By way of explanation, sorry I always struggle with appropriate thread titles. Another thread I'd started earlier was called 'Hesistating Tranny' to complain about 2nd to 3rd speed shifting lag/kick-back which drew some curiosity.

Anyway, in month 3 now with my E350 and real happy I bought the Lux model with the 17 wheels and more rubber on them. Having hit several winter potholes now and a couple of kerb encounters very thankful to be riding on larger tires. Would have certainly smashed some 19 rims with an inch of rubber on them - done that before. Lux ride is comfortable, a bit bouncy getting into kerbed parking lots/subdivision entrance for example, otherwise pretty good thus far.

I remember the "hesitating tranny" I gave a really weird look at the thread and decided to stay quiet about it haha. How does the 17s look on the car?

I remember that topic , no wonder why it drew some attention because you know attention is in details , well I think it should be devil whatever lol

I find 17's the best in comfort and sporty feel , the bigger the wheel the less the comfort generally but I wonder why W221 S600 comes with 20" wheels as standard as opposed to W221 S350 BLUETEC
Being flagship model and S Class , you expect it to be more comfy
Anyway, I would like to have 19's because they look very cool but your wheels same as mine are wicked too

My S350 Bluetec came with 18" wheels and 255/45R18 tires. The ride is notably smoother and more comfortable than the 19" and 20" equipped S-classes. Back in the day when I would increase wheel size, more often than not, I introduced strange vibrations, wierd tracking, more road noise, and reduced comfort. If you are a "city dweller" then it probably doesn't make much difference (well, until you hit the pothole and bend your rim), but, for a highway cruiser, the taller sidewalls equal much better comfort. And, with modern tire technologies, there is very little performance loss. It hard to believe that anyone buys a non-AMG E, or any S-Class to be a performance curve carver.
