E350 2010 bumper type and LED drl cover grille question

i have some dumb questions for you, timurik . you had the quad before and now to the straight led. so i assume you have a button to turn on the fog (inner two) and can turn on/off the drl (outer two) from the setting menu. so when you have the drl on, they'll turn on under bright light/morning but does it mean they'll stay on all the time in the same brightness if you press the fog light button ? also, i don't know how many plugs are there but i guess two on each side as one for drl and one for fog. so which one did you use for the your new led now ? thanks again

Hi, I'm not good at describing things, but I'll try my best.
I had two round lights on each side: one light - DRL and one light - FOG LIGHT.
I connected LEDs to the FOG LIGHT for two reasons: 1. It was easier for me to attach LED's wires to the fog light bulb; 2. I can fully control LEDs with the switch by pulling it out and when I unlock the car, the LEDs would light up. In other words LEDs act the same as my old fog lights would.
I started by taking off a wheel on the passenger side. I read that passenger side has less stuff in a way which is true. So, if you want to start easy, do the passenger side first. After the wheel was out, I removed (partially) the cover by removing the nut right above the wheel and by taking out three pins with the use of this very useful thing: http://www.homedepot.com/p/Husky-Tac...2#.UX3YEyt34hM This tool was very helpful later for me when I was taking out the grilles too. So, I would highly recommend buying it. And it's only $6 at home depot. After that I also removed one more pin underneath the car and I unscrewed one screw there too. When you will be removing the cover above the wheel, you will see what screws and pins I'm talking about. I did not take the cover all out, so it was easy to put it back on and at the same time there was enough room for me to access the grille and all the wires.
The next part was to remove the existing grille. When you get your new grilles for straight LED you will see in what places your old grille is holding to your bumper. I used that husky thing to remove the old grille. I also put some pressure. It was a little bit difficult to remove it (both sides), but doable. Please note that the grille is also secured with something that is attached to the bumper and you have to pull it from inside and then push the grille from the outside at the same time. With a little bit of effort you will get those grilles out. By the way, putting the new grilles in is pretty easy. When the grille was out, it was still attached to the wires. You will have to disconnect a fog light socket by pushing to the sides two things and pulling out the socket. As for the DRL, I used a screw driver to take out the bulb. After that's done, you can remove the grille out.
Like I said before I used fog lamp connection for the LED. I broke the glass of the actual bulb. There are going to be two sticking out wires. I soldered plus of my LED to one and minus to the second wire. I tested one socket for +/- by attaching the LED and turning on my fog light switch. Once both wires from LED is soldered, I secured the connection with a metal pin and I used pliers. Then I soldered everything again. The connection was very strong. Then I used a lot of electrical tape so that the whole thing is waterproof. I wish I took a picture. In other words you take the bulb, break the glass, remove the spiral and use the two wires inside for your LED. And then just plug in your new bulb to the socket in your car. So, it's the same as you would connect an old bulb to the existing socket. Except there is no bulb, but only a bottom of the old bulb. I hope I was clear on that.
Then I put the new grille, LED and molding in. This part was very easy because everything just snapped together.
I did the same thing on the driver's side, except I did everything from below, from underneath the car mostly.
About the actual parts: I bought the parts from parts.com and I bought the LEDs from a guy from Slovenia. Everything was OEM MB. The guy sold the LEDs on ebay. When I received the LED they were already with wires which was very convenient. Here is a picture for you attached. In case you are interested, you can email the guy at ales.lukez@gmail.com I saw that he's selling the LEDs on ebay again, but they are without the wires. I would send him an email and ask if he can connect the wires. I bought the lights for $200 with shipping.

As you can see from my previous post, I have no DRLs anymore, just the FOG light. So, every time I want the LED to be on, I have to pull out that switch, which is not a big deal. And yes, it stays on at the same brightness all the time.

holy smoke ! it's well more than plug and play! didn't know you have to do all the soldering as well. wow, i guess it's totally out of my league. but thanks for the write up, timurik !

Nice work, i just installed the hokey LEDS from my coupe on my fiancee's w212 that came with the quad lights. I plan on using a philips DRL module to make the lights function like factory (Full brightness during and reduced brightness when the headlights are on).

Hi, do you have a link or the model number of that drl kit? Do you have to connect it to a battery?
When you unlock the car, will the LEDs light up?

I'm not sure if the module is available for sale separately, i got it from a friends philips daylight 8 DRL kit. The module reads "Philips ACC/KL15 Control Box DRL2.8". I will try to install it this weekend if i have the time, i plan to use a relay connected to the fog lights activate the LEDs when the car is unlocked. I will let you know if it works out.

BM2BZ, I recently saw a car with four round lights, and on the outer lights (DRL) there were LED bulbs. And to tell you the truth it looked pretty cool and noticeable which is good for safety reasons. So, I made a research and there are LED bulbs that give no errors. So, if you are not putting those straight LEDs, I thought you might consider this as an options...

I tried to install the philips module yesterday but it was putting out the wrong voltage (24V). I ended running the LEDs through a DPDT relay to switch the wiring from parallel to series when the side light is switched on. This cuts the brightness in half when the headlights are on. Let me know if you need more info.

Timurik the car looks great with the straight LEDs
I want to do the same to my E350 sport. I've been researching like you and i believe all I need are the Outer grill cover L/R, and Ornamental molding L/R and the Straight Daytime Running lights L/R. Is that right? If so can you supply the MB OEM part numbers. I think they are 2128851753, 2128851853 = 220
2128852174, 2128852274 = 260
2049068900, 2049069000
You are the MAN, good job!
Thanks,
Julian

Thank you for your follow-up. I will leave everything the way it is now. But I think more information would be of interest to some of the readers of this post. So, if it's not difficult, it would be interesting to read how you did it and what parts you used.

Hi, you got all the parts listed below correctly. The only thing is that the LED lights will come with no wires attached to them, just the two plugs, so you will have to work around that a little.
Good luck!

Cool! I'm glad for you. You will love the way your car will look. It's a completely different and better (IMHO) look. Julian, did you ask Ales to send you LEDs with the wires attached? Because it makes a big difference!

You got everything right, except for this part: 212885_71_53, should be '17' instead. Want to make sure.
