Refinishing Wood trim

So long story short bought used car with ugly burl walnut trim (not right for seat color). I bought a used set pulled out of another car for $300 (Mercedes wants $3800 for the same thing). My question, is anyone familiar with the process for stripping off the finish so I can stain the wood black? I have been google searching and have read some interesting articles but figured I would ask to see if someone else has any experience with this.

That's a lot of effort, how about having vinyl wrap on trim pieces for less?

Some of the new vinyl looks really good. Here's a link to my thread where I changed the wood trim over to brushed aluminum on my w211.

Looks tempting. How resistant to dogs is the vinyl?

If you have a minute go to mbusa.com and build a 550 with a white exterior, then choose Chestnut Brown seats and then burl walnut trim. Keep in mind the wood trim is lighter than it appears in the pictures. Let me know if you think i am crazy for letting this get under my skin.

I got an amazing trade in on my old car and was making a deal on Dec 30th and no other used 2012 E550 was within 250 miles. I didn't have a choice. I can get past the white car (I prefer dark gray usually). The person who custom ordered this car was an idiot (actually custom ordered the standard comfort suspension from the 350, instead of airmatic) and traded it in after just 4 months because of their monumental failure (and chain smoking).

So far so good. I've had it for 6 months and it shows absolutely no signs of wear or scratching. I take my cocker spaniel for rides about once a month.

If you go this route, I highly recommend the Scotchprint 1080 vinyl which has a ribbed backing that lets air escape to avoid bubbles. It's thick and is easy to apply compared to the others. I did my car myself for less than $100.

bought the stuff from metro restyling.
