Question about a new 550
We sold our 08 E550, great car for us for 5 years, and am not sure about the benefits of a 14 over a 13 aside from whether or not you like the new front end look.
I'm guessing we can pick up a 13 for about 4-5k less than a 14 but are there other benefits we'd 'lose' out on outside of the revised looks?
I'm trying to deter my wife from wanting a cab because its really just a CLK and we never really cared for them all that much for as much as the were priced at.
TIA for any opinions.

i think majority of people are buying styles. better to ask your wife which one does she prefer. just two choices, 13 or 14, not a e coupe. i don't want you to get something you like and have to get her an e coupe later .

I think that you should be able to get a 2013 for possibly $10K+ cheaper than the 2014's before the end of the year, as the '14's so far aren't being discounted all that much, apparently. That will soon change as soon as the initial novelty wears off, but you should be finding '13's substantially cheaper than 14's.... if not now, then in the next few months or so.
As for differences, aside from the obvious drastic cosmetic changes, there aren't many technical differences that should make a huge difference in the grand scheme of things. The 14 will obviously have some very slightly updated electronics (not sure if that's even the case), the drivetrains are identical and they drive identically. The interior is where I'd give the 14 a more objective supremacy on as has some slightly nicer materials and an overall slightly "richer" ambiance. But even that is very minimal in changes/upgrades if you look at it objectively.
The huge difference is the exterior. Personally I think the 2013 is nicer, but naturally your biggest issue with choosing the 13 would be it being a very obvious "pre" model. You can thank M-B for making that so prevalent for such a mere facelift.
Personally, I'd use the 14's drastic exterior surgery as a benefit via using it as a catalyst to get an insane discount on a 13 (they've already been so discounted, the 14 should only make that more-so). That way, if you prefer the 13's looks, you can have your cake and eat it to.

2014 Sport White on black
Comes down to price
I agree, its comes down to price. If you want to spend a lot more purchase a 2014 or spend less and get more for a 13. I did the same for my car. I bought my 2012 for almost 15K off sticker. Yes it was used but had less than 7K miles on it (CPO). However, if you keep your car for a long period of time than price should not be an issue and purchase new 2014.

Get the 2013 and negotiate for a huge discount! Search via the WEB a 200 mile radius from your location, get competing offers, and make sure the dealer knows you are willing to travel to get the car you want for the price you want.
