I think I am one version behind the most up to date comand software. Is there anyway to upgrade to see the little globe on the right hand corner. I have a 2011 E350.

 

I have the same model as you 2011 E350 made on September 2010. I don't have the Globe. I was told that our system is NTG 4.0 and the ones with Globe is 4.5. I believe and I could be wrong that this would require a hardware change not just software update.

You are not missing out on much other than Sirius XM weather/maps which you have to pay extra subscription for. It was nice to have it for 3 months.

 

It's also the version that allows for BT audio. I've read on the site that any dealership can do it. My local dealership told me it wasn't possible at first due to there being a difference in the head units for 2011 vs. 2012, but then they just called me this morning and said they had done research and found that if you update the backup camera then you can run the the update to get BT audio I have an appointment to drop it off next wednesday so I'll let you know what they tell me.

 

All it takes is initiative! Dealerships are slowly learning it is as simple as contacting the home office for assistance either to learn of a fix or more importantly, implement one.

 

Yea I was impressed that they did the research and then offered to do it for free. When I originally asked them to upgrade my COMAND they said if they could do it they'd need to charge me for about an hour of labor.

 

Mine came with BT streaming and that fancy looking display in the odometer reading area
