I suspect the reason they no longer tell you what regions have been updated is that only people in those regions would buy them. As it is, you must buy and hope.

I feel the same in my E. I never really trust it. Plenty of times it's left me sitting pretty far out of my space. The camera is great for reverse though.

I just spent some time in a rental car without a nav system. I had to use my iPhone 5. What a pleasure it was compared to the MB system! MB should be ashamed! Every street labeled. Clean interface. Time to next event. More timely warnings, especially for highway driving. Easy input. I'm getting a window suction cup holder - how embarrassing for this calibre of car.

The parking guidance portion of the system leaves a lot to be desired but the oark distance portion is invaluable as the camera only does the rear and the sensors do the front and rear.

The COMAND 4 to 4.5 and other minor changes had nothing to do with a new model year but were merely running changes.
I wondered if Germany still used the build year or "erste Zulassung" as the model year - that's the way it was when I was stationed there in the early 1970s. Of course back then factories practically shut down in the month of July (vacation time) and when the workers came back (suitably rested and refreshed) the factory started to produce the "next" model year.

I get slipstream changes, but given the lag time and model year changeover, wonder if any U.S. spec 2011 E class cars got the 4.5 version of COMAND.

The park distance is what I find not so valuable (I never use guidance). It's too sensitive, as someone else noted. When it goes full nuts, there are several inches left (maybe 6?). Once you get a feel for the car, you'll know you have more room and eventually it'll just become background noise. I was thinking about this today parking at the Bethesda co-OP on MacArthur. Tiny spaces, and everybody drives big cars. Plus weird entry angles. My sensors were all sounding continuous alarms, yet I carried on knowing they were wrong. In tight parking, those last few inches can be critical. It should really let you get down to an inch or so before going red, especially if the car is moving slowly. If the parking is not tight, then it isn't necessary.

IMHO,this is a feature that sounds good on paper but isn't implemented particularly well. Or gets hobbled by lawyers who think we should stay more than 6 inches from other cars.

There are the odd times when it is helpful. Like the time a guy was running counter traffic behind the row of parked cars I was in. My vision was blocked by a van parked next to me. I started backing the same moment he ran behind my car. The audible noise told me something was wrong before my vision registered him. I didn't squash him, but maybe I would have improved society if I had.

I'm looking forward to trying the new Parktronic system with the 360 degree camera views.

My 2010MY has the sensors and the rear camera and I've found that when the curb disappears from the rear camera view, my bumper is right at the curb.

I've only tried the parking guidance portion once in the delivery demo, and never in real life. I found it too cumbersome than just parallel parking myself, but I see many other folk that simply don't parallel park due to the terror of doing it in public. This new self-parking feature may be helpful to them.

Again, with practice you can learn where you are and use the system to the fullest.
