Command Screen

My wife drives a 2012 E Sport and I just picked up my new 2013 E Sport. One difference between the cars is that the 2013 command radio screen is now black and white as opposed to the 2012's yellowish gold. The problem with the black and white is that it is sometimes difficult to read the radio screen when it is in detail mode (three lines as opposed to the radio dial screen). The bottom line doesn't have good contrast. I have tried different brightness settings but it doesn't help. Can the colors or screen appearance be changed?

Interesting. I personally find the Black/White screen more appealing. At any rate, yes you can change the screen appearance, IF your '13 is the same as my '12 Coupe.

Check the Command Manual (not the regular Owner's Manual) for "Display Design." If yours is the same as mine, you can go to:

System > Display > and then choose from Day Mode, Night Mode or Automatic Mode. This is in addition to the screen brighnesss adjustment you've already found.

Hope this works for you.

Enjoy your new car.

Thank you for the response. Unfortunately I already tried this and it doesn't help. When the radio is in detail mode (three lines as opposed to the radio dial screen) the background on the screen goes from a light gray (top) to a dark gray (bottom). In day mode the letters are in black and very difficult to read with the dark gray so you can barely read the bottom line regardless of the brightness. In night mode the dark gray bar is on the top and light gray bottom reversing the problem. In the '12 the yellow background remains constant and the screen is very readable. Does anyone with a '13 have the same problem?

This actually can be changed on '13 models through Engineering Menus. press star-hangup-1 on the telephone keypad, go to HU parameters, and you can change the color scheme of the COMAND screen from black/white to yellow/brown.

Do you know which parameter needs to change?

I've looked through the parameters on the engineering menus and don't seem to be able to find the one to change the command color scheme on my 2013 from black/white to yellow/brown. Does anyone know if this can be done via the engineering menus and if so, which parameters or values need to change.
