I only just got my car and was researching this but You caN DEFINITELY COPY mp3 FILES to a good quality DVD-R and get them to play in the DVd player. I did this over the w/e. Trick is to use windows media player and copy as DATA files. Works a treat but might take a bit of sussing out a decent brand DVD. Once you got the right one its simples!!
Copying onto a DVD and playing from the DVD is not the same thing as copying the MP3 Data file onto the HD of the Command system and playing from there (which does not require the DVD to be in the drive).

I believe you can do the same with the USB.

Mine's a 2010, but I have no problem making a CD from music on my computer and then recording it to Music Register. Works just like a regular CD when recording to MR.
All of the music on my computer was recorded from CD's and then transferred to home made CD's. Except, I have two home made CD's from a friend and he copied them from CD's his daughter made for him from music she downloaded from internet. No problems recording them to MR.
Note that all of my home made CD's are CD's and not DVD's.

All,
The original post was not about playing MP3 on a CD or DVD. That all works on all devices. But the question is about copying MP3's from a CD or DVD to the Hard drive. The key word is COPY not REC. The manual states you can REC from a CD that is a playable music CD, not a MP3 disc. So here is what I found today , as we just got a 2014 C350 sport, is that if you have a MUCIS CD in Disk 1 and a CD with MP3 on it in Disk 2 slot, it will copy the MP3's to the Hard Drive. Going to find out now if I put a DVD into disk location 3 will it copy all the MP3 to the HD. By the way, 6 DVD's with MP3's on it will hold more than the HD will. So will a SD flash drive . More later

Hey I've got some answers. On the C350S, the USB Memory slot size is unlimited. What does thsi mean exactly, not sure. But It will red a 64G memory. So why would you need to copy to the HD? Not sure even my needs will use the HD. It is easier to load and unload the memory stick, change music if you chose than copy to the HD. I have >72G of music but that does not mean I want all of it on the Mem stick. So I doubt I will ever use the HD. Also I found that it will not copy from the DVD with MP3 to the HD. Might be some legal issues. So it has a 6 disk DVD plus the memstik capability. Who needs the HD of 10 G?

Also on another not, my '09 SL63 can read the DVD with MP3 format as a data disk and copy the files in MP3 format to the HD. The HD is limited to 4 G. So no big deal. I have a 67 DISK player and that is >25G of music. That should work just fine , plus the HD @4G and the Meme stick @ 2G. Will be awhile before I need to change or add anything. If you need the process, it is simple, but manual is not as clear. Ping me and we can put process on here
