First curb rash :(
So I went to San Francisco for dinner over the long weekend. Parked on the side of the street in front of the restaurant. Didn't know the painted parking signs on the road were much smaller than back home, so ended up curbing the front wheel.
Anyone have any experience getting a wheel repaired/refinished? How much does it typically cost?
Am I better off buying a set of used rim's off someone? If so what's the best place to look for them?
I've got the 18" AMG wheel package.
thanks.

If you don't mind me asking Hyperion, where did you order yours from and how much did it cost?
I usually use the white line on the road as a guide, try to park as close to the white line as possible to keep distance from the curb. Who knew the lines in SF are much closer to the curb then they are here in Carmel. Infact when I curbed, I got out of the car, and looked around, with the front wheel against the curb, the front left wheel was still over the white line. So my E was wider then the standard parking spot in SF.
If there had been a parking garage within walking distance of this restaurant, I would've parked it in the garage instead of road side.

No need to order a new wheel. You can get it refinished to look like new for somewhere between $100 and $200 - depending on where you go. Your dealer will have somebody that fixes wheels but they'll be on the high side.

the set I'm replacing was around the same, and two other sets were about 5200 each(for my 550).....then I also have a set for my TT that were 8700.......I think that's it......for the HRE's anyway......also have some Mandrus, Vossens and two sets of stock wheels that are sitting in my sunroom collecting dust.....oh, and a set of Turbo wheels off the TT
problem?? what problem???

Like someone else said, have it refinished...I hit the curb and got some curb rash on the front right rim a year ago and it cost me $120. Look on Craigslist and online, there are some people that will come to your house and repair in your driveway which takes about one hour. I would rather spend $120 to have it repaired than spend $300+ for a new wheel; you can't even tell my rim was ever damaged.

I had curb rash real bad on driver side rim and one on of the stars. Talked to the MBZ mechanic and he gave me a business card from a mobile rim fixer. I was quoted $40-60 per rim. Regular curb rash 40 bucks and the rash and warn mark the star 60 bucks. Need to shop around. If I had to pay 200 bucks per rim I would just purchase used on on ebay. Before I got price I checked craigslist (LA and SD) and found a new set of AMG rims for 700 bucks. I got him down to 500 plus 100 shipping until my wife requested I talk to the MBZ mechanic and ask what they do.

yeah no worries: I have gotten all of my wheels through a local Discount Tire, the set I have coming in a few weeks was 7400, but well worth it....

Haha, well for what it's worth I've never seen the show so I didn't realize what I was comparing you to. Being Reality TV though I can now imagine it's the lowest of the low so obviously comparisons nor "hoarding" applies here.
That's seriously a hell of a collection!

I just got rid of all my extra wheels from cars long gone - probably for a quarter on the dollar but there comes a time when they have to go.

A good excuse to invest in some aftermarket rims. I have a 3 piece design, outerlip can be easily polished if it is curbed. If it is ruined, gouged beyond repair, it only cost 200 for the outer barrel which is a fraction of the 1500 to replace the entire rim. Things to think about when buy mono blocks versus 3 piece, polished versus painted etc... It cost a little more for a 3 piece, but if you bend a lip and or curb it, you never have to replace the entire rim.

Your ride looks stunning. Wheels are very nice. The windows are tinted right?
