Expensive to replace a tire

I had to get a tire replaced on my 2012 E350 4matic. There was a nail in the 1st row of tread and no tire shop would repair it because it was too close to the edge.

Priced the continental ContiPro Contact V97 Extra Load 245 40 18 tire and the cheapest price was my dealer. Tire, mounting, weights, disposal fees. etc and sales tax. $305! Stupid money for a non runflat tire.

Still ahead compared to purchasing the wheel and tire insurance but at that rate, it may not be in the long run.

In my opinion, its safer to replace the tire since the damage is close to the edge.

That"s actually a pretty decent price. Tirerack has them for $219 but you have to add shipping ($25 or so), mounting/balancing (another $25) the disposal fee ($2-6 depending on state) so you're at $275ish plus tax.

Conti tires include a road hazard warranty but I'm not certain if that applies to the OE provided tires - check the brochures that came with your car. The dealer should have also told you about that.

On my Z4M the first week after I took delivery the same thing happened...my SA said it was non-repairable. My tech told me to bring the car around the back at 5pm and he carefully repaired the tire with a plug and patch. It lasted 26k miles before I replaced all four tires. I thought, what's the worst that could happen.besides a slow leak?

Catastrophic tire failure resulting in the car crashing and burning?

Can somebody check the Conti paperwork with the warranty papers to see if the OP has a claim against the dealership?

Not quite sure what you find so funny.

Conti tires include a road hazard warranty covering the tires for a certain time period and tread depth. I don't have a copy of the Conti warranty paperwork that comes with a new MB so I can't check to see how that warranty is implemented on new cars, but I figured that one of you might actually have a copy and could take 10 seconds to look it up.

Here is a link to the 2013 Conti tire warranty for retail purchased tires but I don't have the info for OE Conti tires.

Pulled out the warranty books to understand what is covered regarding tires. If the tire failure is a result of a manufacturing defect, the tire is covered for 12K miles or 12 months.

Page 14 says that punctures are NOT covered.

Thanks for the thoughts.

Some of the tires on these cars are outrageously expensive.

I have paid serious $$$$ on Michelin PS2 on a Carrera but the ContiPro Contacts are really nothing special. Lots of good (and less expensive) alternatives if you do not have to return the car at the end of a lease.
