Activating rearview camera

I have a 2011 E350 Bluetec and even if my radio is off, when I shift into reverse, the camera automatically comes on. I have a friend who has a 2010 E350 and if his radio is off and he shifts into reverse, his camera does not come on. Is there some way to get his camera to automatically come on when shifting into reverse when his radio is off?

I believe it's in settings on the dashboard. There is a rear view camera option (this is assuming u have nav)

I have noticed that too , if you turn off Comand no way you can activate rear view camera . It makes kinda sense because by pressing the round button on the console , you turn off Comand screen not just radio but for safety reasons it should have been turned on no matter
May be STAR , DAS have settings for it
You don't wanna hear any sound when backing up , we have a trick for it , push that Mute button , it works charm

I have a 2010 E550 and it does the same. I think it is by design because the second step in my manual on page 159 states, you have to "Switch on the command system."

Yeah, I saw that in the 2010 owners manual too. The 2011 owners manual just says to shift into reverse to activate the camera. It says nothing about turning on the command system. Guess there's just no way to get the 2010's camera to activate automatically when engaging reverse. I thought that maybe there was some setting in the engineering menu or something.
