--> E250 BlueTEC Thread
I know there will be people that will doubt the claims of this new engine but I thought it would be helpful to post my experiences. I purchased a 2014 e250 bluetec and did the European delivery program. I drove the car approximately 1500 miles through varied terrain in German, Austria, Switzerland, Lichtenstein, Italy and Slovakia. I had the opportunity to regularly cruise at 140 MPH (After break in). My mileage at 80 -100 was consistently 43-45 MPG. When cruising back roads at 50-60 MPG with a fully loaded car I consistently got 55-65 MPG. This is real world, a new engine and not hypermiling it. I took a picture as proof of driving time, and average speed.
Fantastic card in every respect!
1. The US model E250 Bluetec is speed-limited to 130 mph.
2. I've gone over 12,000 miles on the same autobahn roads after a German delivery. Mixed driving-- 1/2 back roads, 1/2 autobahn (up to 110/120 normally)-- gets me ~31-32 mpgs. The best I've registered was 45.6 mpgs on a backroad trip averaging ~40mph.
3. I love my Bluetec (and I've got my delivery photo for proof-- where's yours?), but your claims are not in this world. Or you've got a bad sensor...

1. Are these figures based on imperial mpg ?
2. Have you (or any other E250BT owner) determined the margin of error between the trip computer and actual mpg based on fill-ups ?
As we get into colder months, diesel density decreases, so I suspect I won't see such good numbers for a while again.
In any case 42.8 US MPG converts to 5.5 L/100KM which is impressive. That should give a potential range of 1,360 KM per tank.
Cheers.
I've gotten used to Metric with L/100KM and KM/Hr since we buy our fuel in litres and not gallons.
I also find it meaningless to use Imperial gallons since the pumps don't use it.
Also the car dealers in Canada using FE in Miles/Imperial Gallon is rather deceptive!
Cheers.
