If your Bluetec is similar to my CDI, you can track your mileage long term by never resetting the 2nd trip counter. I routinely reset the 1st level for trips, and leave the 2nd alone. My overall mileage since acquiring my vehicle is in the 35 MPG range. I do a lot of highway travel.

The daily meter resets after the car is at rest for more than two hours automatically.

I understand the dual trip meter plus the self resetting daily trip meter (it actually resets after 4hrs of inactivity) is common in all MBs.

I have it in my C63 / E550 /E350 and GL450.

I am jealous.

This one time, I got such a nice mpg that I had to take a pic. My best (MPG) ever (80% freeway) :

The cool thing about the Diesels is that they don't decline in MPG the faster you go (I guess its the torque). Typically, it takes an average MPG of 45 or better to attain 35+ in my CDI, with incremental gains right up to 75. At the low end its all about the gearing (I get into 5th by 45 mph), but above that its all about torque. I can stomp it at 70-75 to pass someone and the mileage never wavers. One of my favorite road rants is to stomp it whenever I am making a leisurely pass and someone comes up on my bumper. I leave them in a cloud of diesel smoke and before they can blink I am a quarter mile ahead of them! Doesn't cost me much other than soiling my deck lid a bit... I'll miss it in the Bluetec. LOL!

Just hope you never have to have any work done involving the ECU/pulling codes/doing God knows what else to it. I reset mine in my C250 the second it hit 1,000 miles (gave it 1,000 for break-in) and never touched it. I was enjoying a nice 24.3 MPG lifetime average when I chomped a coil pack and the dealer had to reset the codes for my check engine light to go off. My lifetime count reset to all -- --, and I had to reset it. It's hard work getting it back up as high as it was and still being a leadfoot

I have driven C250 couple times, mainly as a loaner, and I have managed to keep it above 30 mpg each time (HWY mainly).

Out on the highway it can pull 32-33 very easily. It's sitting right at the bottom of the torque peak at 70 MPH, so it isn't really working hard at all.

Contrasting what TomzBenz said above about his diesel - if you start wailing on the C250 it will drop down into the 16-17 MPG range rather quickly.

Actually I have. At or around 60K I was involved in a collision that resulted in airbags deployed and belt tensioners being activated. While most of the work was performed at a collision center, the belts and bags were all installed at a Benz dealer's shop and they did a code reset (a couple of times due to issues with the tensioners.) I've since put another 70K on it and have pretty much re-established my prior benchmarks.

I had the collision work done at a Rick Hendrick (of NASCAR fame) collision center and was very impressed with the technician's skills. Checked on it almost daily. Car is solid as a rock but alas the Car Fax has doomed its resale value. That's part of the reason I will keep it in the family. I have 100% faith in the structural integrity and safety systems after the repairs, otherwise I would not let my daughter and grand-daughters ride in it.

For the diesel, there isn't a choice-- it's the 17", with the split 5 spoke.

The sport can come with 17"'s? Is that a normal (read majority) way the Sport models are equipped, I thought it was 18".

They are a no cost option. It looks exactly like the 18" wheel, but is 1" smaller.

Damnit, that is not what I wanted to hear. The dealer could not tell me anything.

I really want 18's (twin 5 spoke, not the 18" version of the E250 wheels). I may have to reach out to the consultant I am working with and see if there is anything they are willing to do.

The car performed as designed. I was broadsided on the passenger side. Window curtains came down, side airbags deployed and I was tucked back into my seat. No passengers so no injuries. The curtains deflected most of the glass. Car was pushed ten feet in a lateral direction. Engine stopped automatically, and within seconds MB was talking to me noting that the bags had deployed, checking if I was OK and calling the EMT's. Coincidentally a volunteer EMT was at the scene already, put on his orange vest and advised me stay put. I was fine but definitely shook up.

The fire department arrived next and checked for leaking fuel... and looked for my battery to disconnect it but could not find it in the engine compartment of course (there is a reason its in the trunk I discovered).

Afterward, I was able to restart the car and limp it over to a parking lot but the police would not let me drive it home (a half mile or so). The auto braking feature had stopped the car and there was some residual effect from that. Repairs eventually ran about 27K and by all rights it should have been totaled. The tech removed the doors and quarter panels and replaced an entire section of frame for the passenger compartment on the passenger side (apparently they are available for such purposes.) New doors, new airbags, new Passenger seat, and misc other items (a small crack in the windshield), but the pano roof was fine. Just a small dent in the roof sheetmetal. Amazing how the doors and B pillar took the brunt of the impact well (I was hit by an MDX). All door remained latched but automatically unlocked after.

No, he did not see any build issues. But it was fun seeing it get put back together piece by piece.
