Rebates and Holdbacks

My dealer shared a document that shows he gets $3000 rebate if he sells an E350 in September. $5000 rebate if cash sale. He says the amount is subject to change each month.

Is this a dealer rebate or a holdback?

Does it change much? What are the chances of it holding out for October or November?

I thought maybe Edmunds or TruCar might show it, but I didn't see it.

One dealer in the SF bay area I spoke to said they get this from MB almost on a monthly basis. for the E class he said it's been in the $3k to $5k range for quite a while now and that he would be happy to pass all of that on to me. The amount goes up when they try to clear out older models or those that aren't selling well. Last year when they discontinued the R class, this dealer was offering me nearly $20k off MRSP. The sales manager told me about $15k of that was various rebates and incentives MB was providing while the other $5k was discount from the dealer and difference from MSRP to invoice etc.

Is there a mailing list to learn about these? If I'd have known I could have got 20K off an R class I would have bought at least one. I don't suppose they'll do this for the retiring E550.

I don't think there are public mailing lists about these things. MB notifies its dealers. Maybe its even dealer specific (maybe based on sales volume?).

Several dealers were offing $10k to $15k off R class last fall. I called about half dozen in the SF area. One dealer that I had contacted several times in the year prior about R class offered me $20k off of their remaining R class. (they had 5 in stock at the time).

That sounds doable. I guess it depends a great deal on whether the dealer is willing to pass on the whole rebate to the customer.

i'd be ok with 2500 out of the 3k plus loyalty bringing it to be about 10k off msrp. Smoking deal i say....

This reminds me of the 4k conquest discount days where 10k off msrp was nothing....

10k of msrp on an E is not too uncommon.

$10K off a W212 is historically kind of a weak deal.

I don't know why the dealer would prefer cash since he makes a nice profit on credit.

It cost MFG $$ to give you low interest financing. So sometimes manufacturers will give an additional discount/rebate if you pay cash instead of finance the purchase.

You've never heard of all the commercials of x.xx% for XX months or $yyyy cash back?

The dealer gets paid either from you or the MFG

I've been calling various dealers in the SF bay area inquiring about remaining 2013 E350's as my parents are looking to upgrade from their C into an E.

Most dealers I've spoken to will take between $10k and $15k off remaining 2013 E350's in stock and $5k to $7k off 2014 E class without too much haggling.

Most people can barely get $7k off LOL, we aren't all that good at negotiating. You would be surprised at how many people barely get $7k off sticker even when the going is good.

P1 gun metal grey sport with light grey interior and black zebra wood interior and lighting package. I got it in LA and there were two on the lot for the same price. Black with traditional wood interior with some funny non-oem rims and they thought they could charge me more for it. But I opted for the dark grey and financed it through my bank with 3K in pocket/up front. It took a whole 20mins to make the deal since they had new 2013s on the lot. The key is doing most negations on phone then when arrive to dealership try to get a better deal. I have been doing for more than `10 years and I have averaged 30% savings. If you need help or pointers please email me. I have been helping my colleges for ten years and have helped save them on average helped them save $5K. The key is to negotiate outside their comfort zone/outside the shark cage.

Getting anything over 4-5k on the east coast is proving near impossible on a 2014. I'm looking to lease so the 2013 leases are not that attractive.

Historically November and December is the best time to get a deal so I would probably wait until then to pull the trigger if you can...I am looking to repeat my lease deal of $400 a month for a 60k msrp car with 0 down but seems like there's no more 80% residual nowadays..

If that happens I would be all over it. I am hoping october would produce it but september is so bad that I an re-thinking that.

Ok so the Winter even has started, can anyone confirm the following:

Lease rebate\holdback is still 3k

Purchase rebate\holdback is 5k

Loyalty (existing customer) on E class sedan is additional 2k

Conquest - ???

Loyalty Accelerator program is 4 payments and 6 if you are turning in S class.

Thanks.

Does anyone have info on the e-wagon? Most of these deals never apply to the wagon . Is there conquest cash for November? My car is coming in 3 weeks.
