premium 1 - backup
Does the 2014 Comand system show lines on the screen when backing up to help position the car.....or is this something added with parking assist? or something else. My 2007 infinity had this...and the lines turned with the wheel. My 2011 e350 just showed a distorted view of what was behind me with no lines. I'm hoping the 2014's have progressed a bit ....

Page 217 in the user's manual:
Then it has additional information for vehicles with Parking assist, then it has even more additional information for vehicles with 360 view.
So to answer your question the rearview camera does inclue the guide lines regardless of the Park assist or the 360 camera option.
Rear view camera : is an optical parking and
maneuvering aid. It shows the area behind
your vehicle with guide lines in the COMAND
display.
The area behind the vehicle is displayed as a
mirror image, as in the rear view mirror.

Does anyone know how to switch to 360 view without moving in rear gear? Somehow I lost manual PDF on my hard drive, so perhaps somebody can answer faster than I found it.
Question to OP, how Infiniti backup camera works at night time? Mercedes's one is completely useless, so perhaps old Infiniti has much more sensitive camera.

Thanks for the page reference...I forgot that manuals are on-line. It seems they significantly improved the backup camera function since my 2011 e350.
Most of the cars I've found in dealer stock have parking assist, lane change and keyless entry. I was thinking I might need surround view, but that's much harder to find, even though it's only $300 or so more than lane change. It looks like surround view actually complicates things or tries to squeeze more information into the already crowded backup display.

Exactly, surround view is useless, at least I couldn't get any use from it yet. Zooming in view doesn't work either although screen has controls of it.
Certainly MB engineers should take a lesson from Infiniti engineers how to make backup camera and surround view good. They shouldn't be ashamed to be dumber.

I special ordered mine with both packages.
I use the surround view cameras everyday as I back into these silly compact spots in our parking lots. I CAN do it manually, but I can use the cameras easier and with more predictable results.
I've also programmed the star button to bring up the cameras when I near a parking space while in drive.
