OEM AMG wheels are lighter!
When I switched over to my snow tire wheels I couldn't help but notice that the 2012 AMG 18" wheel is lighter than the old circa 2005 17" MB wheel which is what my snows are mounted on.
The difference was enough to notice just by picking one up and then comparing it to the other. The the rear AMG which is 18" x 9 was lighter that the 17" x 8.5 older wheel. Light is right.
The second pic is my snow wheel set up.

I was talking with my parts guy about a second set of rims for snows and found out replacement cost for those 18" AMG wheels. ![EEK!](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/eek.gif)
I have to go pick up some lug locks.

You can't compare wheel weights by hand when both have different tires on. I have a set of wheels that have mismatched tires on identical wheels and one feels way heavier than the other. I imagine snow tires are heavier than their all season counterparts.

But, I was still surprised by the weight difference I felt because the snow tire was a much smaller 225 series tire compared to the "big" 265 series tire mounted on the rear AMG wheel that I was lifting.
That being said, I can still be way off in my conjecture. But, I figure I'd throw it out there for discussion
