Should you add the AMG badge to your car? Certainly, if it makes you feel better.

You should read about the history of the AMG and what it originally was and still today means. All of the other AMG stuff, like appearance and transmission etc. have come later but the true AMG is only a car with an AMG engine and this is why MB does not put the badge on cars without the AMG engine. I would NEVER use the badge if the car I have does not have the correct engine in it, NEVER!

I may be different but I respect the AMG fact and I think there are some others like me with this too.

Personally I would not add the AMG badge but anyone who owns a car can do as they please with their property.

Yes, everyone can do what they want. What I do is I look down to people who do that. I would also not do business with people like that as when they cheat with an issue like this you never know what else they cheat with.

Wrong

The GLE Coupe 450 and C450 have wing AMG badges but they are not built in Affalterbach.

Like some others have mentioned, my car also came with AMG styling as it's a sport model. Makes perfect sense to me that MB uses AMG to provide styling options for sport models. On my W210 sport the bumpers and side skirts were stamped AMG - on the W212 the wheels are all stamped AMG (not sure about the bumpers, side skirts) and are all genuine AMG parts that arent available on non sport or AMG 63 vehicles so are those that drive sport models posers / wanna be 63s or are we simply driving an edition of the vehicle with unique styling that sets it apart from others? Interesting thoughts. Its nice to hear you guys opinions because I never thought about it that much.

Do you also have the "AMG" badge on the right side of your trunk lid from the factory?

I will have the AMG badge on both front wings of my GLE Coupe 450 when the car is delivered. The engine is not going to be built by one man in Affalterbach

The badges come from the factory and is not a dealer add on. I will also have AMG wheels and AMG footmats (LoL).

Nope. No AMG badge on the trunk when I bought the vehicle. Perhaps Mercedes should have created a sportline to fit between non sport and AMG? Would make sense from a certain perspective but doesn't comply with their current trajectory of style consolidation...compared to previous years, all vehicles across all classes are looking more and more alike. I sometimes have a hard time telling the new e class from the new c class but AMG sticks out around my area because of body styling and lights...rare sight. Much more than a badge swap. The W210 sport had the exact same front as the W210 E55 but the rear was different. On the W212 both the front and rear are different. IMHO only vehicles that have an AMG engine should carry the trunk badge because that's the whole purpose of the badge. I drive a 550 but shaved the badge because I think it looks better clean but now everyone thinks it's a 350 which is fine by me. Shave the badges off a 63 and fool nobody. Wheels, bumpers, side skirts, etc are a different story because although they're AMG they aren't the same as what comes on a 63.

The wheelset shown in this picture are beautiful - classy understated.

I have AMG Sport Package, AMG Styling, with 18 inch AMG wheels. I would not put a badge on my car though. I can careless if someone else does since it has no real effect on me. Also I would never debadge my car, I see more Legit AMG cars then I see E550's so it's a unicorn and I like the fact that it's rare. Not really a cost thing but more so a rarity thing.

I have an AMG sport model, I haven't put an AMG badge on the back, in fact I have removed all but the Mercedes badge from the back because I like the clean look. Its neither the bottom of the range, nor the top, so no other reason to do it than my preference.

If someone wanted to put an AMG badge on the back then that is up to them and I wouldn't care either way. Putting an AMG badge on one with no AMG connection at all is probably stretching it, but again its up to the individual what they want to do.

The AMG purists need to look at what Mercedes itself is doing with the label. They are the ones who are using the brand in ways that make the purists squirm, and its only going to get more diluted. They want the brand to show the sporting side at all levels. Guess people will learn to live with it or lock the doors of the ivory tower and shout down at people from their keyboard.

People who care will know a full AMG model from a Sport one. Everyone else won't really care.

I'm sure this will get the backs up of some, but there you go.

the whole Mercedes AMG line (450) or the future AMG 43 models is exactly a slap in the face to the AMG ****.

There is no drama here. I don't like people who pose to be better than they are, that's all.

The fact that they now have the AMG Sport models which are not powered by AMG engines, but have the AMG branding on them.

To the purists in this thread this appears to be destroying the brand and no one should have AMG labels on their cars if it doesn't have the hand built engines.

They are clearly trying to spread the brand into fashion accessories and widen its appeal, not keep it elitist as some would like.

The badge doesn't annoy me as much as the two digit nomenclature for half-baked AMG models. If a simple badge had been affixed like BMW does with half-baked M cars, it would be more tolerable. Giving these fancy trim package cars two numbers instead of three is a perplexing move.

Either way, when an E350 AMG car is spotted, we will still know what it is

It is not AMG branding. It is some AMG parts used on non-AMG cars for looks, that's all.

AMG branding would be the AMG sign on the trunk lid, which means the car has the AMG engine. If the car has this from the factory it also has all other AMG parts.

I have never seen a MB from factory with AMG on the trunk lid if it didn't have the AMG engine.

Originally AMG meant only the engine as it is the original logo from the company who started Mercedes engine tuning that became so good at it that Mercedes Benz bought them. Those cars in the past did not have any other parts than the engine that was different to the normal cars.

And still today the AMG badge on the trunk lid only means about the engine as so many other parts have been shared with non-AMG cars.
