The tire has a code "DOT V6BL FWO 1110"

I take this means the tire was made during the week 11 2010.

I had them rear tires installed in April 2013 so the tire was about three years old at installation. This could be a valid reason for the failure then. How in the he'll can a tire company do this if the tire has a self life and they just keep selling them!!! I thought Firestone learned about the issue they had while back with the Ford SUVs.

Most tires have a shelf life of 6 years, so yours would fall within that window unless the specifications for the specific tire you have says differently.

For the record, the Firestone Ford SUV problem was a combination of slightly weak material and under inflation of the tires.
