P2 lighting question..

i've searched and searched but have not found an answer..

i'd like to replace my front turn signal bulbs with the same kind only chrome plated so that i can do away with that "egg yolk" look in the day time.

Anyone know if the P2 has LEDs or regular amber bulbs, and how simple is it to change them out?

Also, are we able to remove the side markers from the outside without going through the wheel well? I used to be able to do that in my BMW e92 and e60.

You should be able to get to the turn signal bulbs through the engine compartment. Open the hood and take a look.

The marker lights are a pain in the butt to remove! You have to remove two of the push pins holding the wheel well liner in place, then reach behind it to removed the whole fixture itself. You can twist the light and plug out of the housing to change the bulb which is pretty simple. To remove the actual enclosure you unlatch a latch and then it is supposed to hinge and remove. I ended up breaking the orange lens getting the stock one out. The replacement units went in pretty easy.

I've looked in the engine bay, but I don't think I saw it.

Is it an LED light? I'm a bit confused..

It looks like a regular bulb (non-led). I'll take a look to see how to get to it, the passenger side seems easier to get to. I'll see if I can get a picture later today.

You should be able to switch to led, but they will need to be error free so as to not trigger a warning light on the dash.

Ok, so there are two orange bulbs in the light fixture. Here is how to get to the larger one.

This first picture is looking down at the passengers side light. Stick your hand in the gap just behind the rubber seal and you'll feel a flat knob. Turn it a quarter turn and pull out. It has an o-ring seal so it may be a little hard to pull out.

Here is the bulb showing the tab that you grasp to remove it:

And here is the bulb number:

Since it's the turn signal bulb I'm going to guess that any led light you get to replace it will need to be the error free version so as to not trigger a warning light.

Awesome! I will replace those with stealth bulbs so that the orange effect in the headlights isn't as obvious.

Not interested in LED.

Thanks so much for this, I will give it a go soon. Hope it's not too hard to get to.

Out of curiosity, do you have factory HIDs? for some reason, Sylvania's website yields a result of:

Front Turn Signal - LED

The passenger side bulb is extremely easy to get to. That will answer your question. If they are the same type of bulbs as mine, here is a chrome plated/amber bulb replacement:

Dealer confirmed that my turn signals are indeed LED. So much for trying to get rid of the egg yolk effect. Guess I have to live with it

Once you get the car back, why don't you take the passenger side bulb out just for ****s and giggles and post a picture here. It's extremely easy to remove.

While I was at the dealer today picking up my car, my SA walked me out to a vehicle without the lighting package, and looking into the headlight from the outside I could clearly see an amber bulb. However, when looking into my headlights there is no bulb. Some type of LED strip.

Here is an example of my headlight removed, the entire backside is open for you to examine:

If anyone has been successful in eliminating that egg yolk look from P02 headlights please let us know.
