I originally thought I had to press the small square on the door handle to lock the car. Then I realized tapping anywhere on the door handle worked fine.

Pressing and holding the small square does invoke the "close all windows/sunroof". I can also do this by holding the lock button on the key fob. To "open all windows" I hold down the unlock button on the key fob.

Is there a way to invoke "open all windows" except with the key fob?

In my car I have to unlock the doors with the button on the door to let others enter on the passenger side. Or if I unlock from the driver's side rear door it unlocks everything. I have it set so that when I touch to unlock the driver's door the other doors do not unlock. If I want to unlock other door I have to do it using the rear door.

The only thing I can add is that whoever changed from the nice beep to the generic horn door lock confirmation from MY2010 to MY2011 should be fired at MB. I hate that change!

My door handles are all chrome except that small infra red sensor window. The rectangular or "square" on the handle is a shallow indentation in the chrome surface.

I would like to have this setting. How can I get it? Currently all my doors unlock if I touch the driver side door handle.

Hold both lock and unlock buttons down at the same time for 6-7 seconds until the light on the remote key blinks. I'm not sure if you need to be next to the car when doing this. This procedure changes the unlocking to I think they call it "local" mode where only the driver's door and the fuel door unlock. You can still unlock everything by doing it at any other door than the driver's door like I try to remember to touch the rear door if someone else is to enter the car with me.

You should be able to cancel the 'acoustic' confirmation in the 'settings', so that only the lights flash. That's how my car is set-up.

I don't think the option for local/global door unlocking is on the cluster menu. Automatic locking/unlocking selection is but to change which doors unlock with one push of the remote key or touching the driver's door can only be set by holding the buttons of the remote key I think.

Ok newbie question here... Please don't flame me. I just bought my 2011 E350 BTC. It's a sport, P1. I do however have the infrared sensor on my handle. At this point I have only used the keyfob to lock and unlock the doors. I do not have push button start or anything and see not mention of keyless go. My question is: Is my car still equipped with the ability to lock and unlock with the handle that you guys mention? Is this a feature on all E350s? We are on vacation for a week, so I can't run out and try!

That sensor on the door handles is to operate the function that opens all windows and the sunroof simultaneously. Point the key fob at the sensor at close range and press and hold the "Unlock" button to activate.

Regards,
Don

The answer to the second part of your question is no - that feature of unlocking and locking by touching the handles is a feature of keyless-go which is part of the P2 package in 2011. Keyless-go also gives you push button start. The infared sensor on the driver's door is unrelated to keyless go.

I think that infrRed is to open/close windows... only. Dont know any other use of it.

Yes, it allows for the opening and closing of the windows/moonroof only when you are within about 10-15ft of the car. Windows first, then moonroof follows as long as you keep the button depressed. A nice feature to have on hot days.

Keyless

As far as I know you have to touch the square pad on the door handles to lock it. I have never found it possible to lock it by repeating the unlock step.
I suspect when it locks you actually touched the pad.

Thanks in advance!

It is how you open and close the door itself using the key fob and pressing the lock/unlock buttons when your car does not have keyless go.

TToe550 you are wrong for a 2014. The square on the outside does lock all of the doors when you get out. But you have to only hit the square on the handle. On your 2010 it may work for the windows and sun roof but on the 2014 it locks the doors. And it really does work. It is also in the manual.
