Fog lamps on 2014 E 350

I would like to know why there aren't any fog lamps seen on the new E350 (both luxury and sport versions). Is it a stand alone option or is it not offered? May be I'm wrong but I haven't seen any pictures either.

So are we supposed to just use regular lights during fog !!!
So it also means all these years it was unnecessary…

The fog lights eventually became day running lights, as in the hockey pucks and the chrome bar. This then got incorporated directly into the headlights, so I think there was no need for "fog" lights. It's unfortunate, I like having lights in the lower air vents of the front bumper.

I didn't fully get it. So you mean the day running lights will shine much brighter when we put on the fog lights? If not what will happen when we turn it on ? I see there is a switch available for the fog lights.

I'm saying that fog lights have traditionally been a halogen bulb in the lower air dams to help illuminate the ground. They've recently switched to LED bulbs since the hockey puck design and are always on, hence the term day running lights (DRL). They claim that having the DRL in the headlights is better for safety reasons and have removed the "fog lights" in the lower bumper.

The 2014's don't have fog lamps, nor is there a housing to retrofit one in. They're more open to provide a 'sportier' look. I believe the lux versions have a simple cross bar instead of an open dam.

No fog in any market for the facelift. The LED low beams put out so much light in the lower area that has been historically covered by the fog light that a fog light would have been redundant. At least this is the only reasonable explanation for their deletion.

On my 2014 E350, with the Active LED lighting System, there is a fog light switch to the left side of the headlight switch.

When I press the fog light button, the left-side low beams lower and aim to the left side of the road. Additionally, a high intensity red light illuminates on the left rear tail light.

I've not found more information in any online manual, but that's how it works with my car.

Well yours must be special because on mine nothing changes in the front, no dipping or turning of the headlamps. The button you're referring to only turns on the rear fog lamp on the driver side and that is all it does.

2014 Fog Lights

I have a 2014 E350 sport sedan with Full LED lighting option. When I press the Rear Fog Light button to the left of the light switch, the rear fog light on left rear comes on, but when I've done this in the garage and can see the light on the wall, the low beams flatten and widen when the Rear Fog Light button is pressed. While I would prefer to have separate Front and Rear Fog lights as I have on my 2007 ML350, it appears to me that the 2014 E350
DOES have front fog lights as well.

Can you post a video? I played with mine and I have yet to see it do that.

My only disappointment was that I've missed having the running light on the lower bumper grille like my W204 does.

My 2013 has the exact same set-up. In fact the light switches for 2013/2014 appear to be identical, with a single 'rear fog light' switch to the left side of the main light switch.
When the rear fog light is activated, the DRLs extinguish and an amber indicator light shows in the instrument panel. Not sure of the German logic for turning off the DRLs ?

White E350 W212 with Panorama Roof
I think this is all started from AUDI and now the 14 E-class will follow what they believed. The eye browse LED will replace the traditional fog lamp below the head light and in my opinion that is just plain ugly. Thats why I ended up buying the CPO 12 E-class instead of the new one. To be honest, I really don't see there is a need for a fog light even in the fog...the LED will work, no matter the position of the LED is at.

I still like the idea to have the LED below the head light, right at the end of the front bumper on each side. The traditional way...

Mine has a fog light button I can push. I bet it is now part of the headlight.

Fog lights were probably cut to save money. Its a shame to actually lose that feature. I initially thought that 2014 models lost the rear center brake lamp too at one point. Good thing that wasn't the case. Just buy some aftermarket fogs and put them where the old ones would have gone.

In reality the W212 never had traditional fog lights. Only the cheap W212s for model year 2010 had them. No W212 since 2011 has had fogs. The E63 W212 was never sold with fogs at any time.

In regards to the front of Mercedes vehicles they have ditched fog lights and headlight washers.
Cost cutting? Maybe... but I think they got rid of them because they are just not needed.

As for headlight washers not being needed, I would disagree. Their elimination from the 2014s is a retrograde step, IMO. They are useful especially for dusty road conditions where the headlights can get very dirty in a hurry. This feature was no doubt deleted, along with the grocery bag hook in the trunk, as a cost saving measure.

I would agree that it was a cost saving measure , but its hard to argue that when MB has removed them from all their new models, not even the S class has them anymore. MB has just decided that there are rare (very very very rare) times when they are actually useful. Sure you could list how useful they could be in random scenarios, but you could also argue that raincoats are useful in the desert.

I believe the grocery hook removal was to entice customers to purchase the comfort box instead. The grocery hook is not gone either, it is just something that you have to purchase at your dealership. Again... the hook is not advertised because they want you to buy the more expensive comfort box. IMO

Finally!

After searching throughout the available information from Mercedes on the 319 Lighting Package, Intelligent Lighting System I have on my 2014 E350, I finally found this information on the enhanced fog light functionality on the Daimler site at: https://www.daimler.com/dccom/0-5-13...0-0-0-0-0.html that states:
With the extended fog light function, which belongs to the new Intelligent Light System, Mercedes-Benz also improved the ease of orientation in fog. As soon as the rear fog lamp is switched on when visibility is less than 50 meters and vehicle speed is below 70 km/h, the left bi-xenon headlamp of the E-Class swivels 8 degrees to the outside and lowers its light cone at the same time. This improves the illumination of the inner half of the road. Wider light distribution also prevents the driver from being dazzled by the light reflected by the fog. The extended fog light remains switched on up to a speed of 100 km/h.

I bet this feature is not enabled in NA due to regulations being behind the curve, the same reason we don't get the dynamic light pattern shaping either.
