iPhone 5S and COMAND

I brought my MY12 E550 to the dealer yesterday, hopefully they have software update to support the iPhone 5S through the media interface. But they told me it is not supported yet. I want to know if anyone had their 5S working on their media interface yet? I know it worked through Bluetooth, so don't suggest I can use through Bluetooth. Thanks!

Mine works...

I used the Mercedes adapter cable that connects a 4/4S connector via the USB port in the center storage area. I bought the Apple adapter that is used to "adapt" the iπhone 5/5S/5C (about $29) and everything works fine. If you didn't get the Mercedes adapter cable when you bought your car, you can go on EBay and buy the newer Mercedes cable that connects the 5/5S/5C to the USB port without the need for the Apple adapter dongle.
I have a 2014 Mercedes E350 and my 5S works beautifully, either wired or wirelessly via Bluetooth.

Now what we REALLY need is the adapter to allow the iPhone to connect and use the CarPlay features (like Siri) that Apple announced this week. The good news is that Mercedes has said that they will be attempting to make AirPlay work with their existing cars.

My iPhone 5 works with Bluetooth on my '10 e350. I had to get the firmware upgrade for it to work.

My iPhone 4S worked in my 2010 E350 coupe using the MB media cable. When I updated my phone to the 5S, I had to purchase the Apple 30 pin to the Lightning adapter to be able to connect the new iPhone.

Some people have purchased an aftermarket 30 pin to Lightening adapter and found that the adapter will not work with the Mercedes media cable. When they purchased a genuine Apple adapter, it worked.

Sounds like car manufacturers are starting to retreat from their excitement about making this technology work with previous models:

As they learn more about what is involved I'm sure they are weighing the investment cost versus the possible return, and my guess is that it's going to be a losing investment for them.

My cousin has the same problem on his 2012 E Coupe. My 2013 E Wagon works fine with the lightning cable from Mercedes. We are also puzzled. Please let me know if you figure it out.

Finally, my dealer told me that the lightning media interface cable is only work for MY13 and up. They spent two days try to see if it works on MY12, but it doesn't, they have tried upgrade my COMAND system, but no luck. They finally give up. They said it requires a NTG 4.5 system, since mine is NTG 4.0.

iPhone 5 lightspeed is not compatible for MY12 or older. Its ONLY work for MY13-UP.

You may still be able to use your iPhone 5S, here we are saying the MB lightning Media interface cable won't work on MY12 and below, but you may still be able to use it with Apple 30pin to lightning adapter to work with your COMAND.

Same problem. I have the cable, part #003-827-09-04. I have an iPhone 5 connected to my 2012 E350. Doesn't work. Dealer says there is no new software.

You can return the cable since it's not compatible for MY12. It apply to newer vehicles MY13-up. Hopefully they can issue you credit.

The 30pin to lightning adapter worked fine on my MY12 E550. If yours is also MY12, you should ask your dealer to fix it for you.
