Rear signal lights

I have noticed that my car's rear signal lamps are red in color and appear to be the same as brake lights (just blinking at a particular rate).
But in the MB advertisements, the E class features amber / yellow blinkers at rear and they appear below the red brake lights (the white line) as continuation of reversing lamps. Is this feature a part of a lighting package? Or my car has some software screwup…?
I haven't seen many E classes around here so don't know if its normal. I would appreciate if anyone could shed some light. Thanks.

I've noticed that as well and mentioned it sometime ago. Don't remember what the response was...

rear turn signals

For the North America market, the W212 rear signals blink bright red (brighter than the brake lights), whereas, in Europe, they blink amber.

Why the shift to red for NA, who really knows ? IMO, amber is the more effective colour for visibility, especially @ night. Unfortunately, the DOT permits both red and amber for NA rear turn signals. In Europe, rear turn signals must be amber.

It's cheaper to use red. Less LEDs.
