Bluetooth Help

Hello all.
I'm new to the MB scene. I came across a ridiculously low mile CPO 2010 E350 back in Feb. The price and CPO terms were just too good to pass up so I cut the check and she's all mine. So far I love it. Quiet, smooth, everything I expected from a Benz.
I hope this doesn't get me flamed bc I've searched and searched for an answer. My car does stream Bluetooth audio and telephone from my iphone5. It has since day 1. Earlier this week it stopped pairing automatically and requires external pairing/authorization each and every time I start the car. Any ideas? It's driving me nuts (ok, I guess in the grand sceme of things it ain't that bad). I haven't tried the dealer yet, and my 2 year old thinks it's hilarious to hide the owners manual. Anyone have this problem before? Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

I'm going through the exact same issue and have been since I got mine last year, except I had to hack into the COMAND system to set up the Bluetooth audio stream. I contacted two different MB dealers in my area and they both said that the car does not have the Bluetooth audio option (didn't tell them that I hacked it) and that feature didn't come out until 2012. I saw this exact problem in a thread posted here: https://mbworld.org/forums/e-class-w...w-e-class.html. There are several people that say they took their E350 to the dealer to get an upgrade on their COMAND and now it works fine. When I contacted both dealers they said that there's no update for my 2010 E350. It definitely is annoying, but that's the only problem I've appreciated with this car, so I guess that's not too bad. Hope you get an update for your system and if you do can you post what you said to get it? Thanks.

I'll keep ya posted. If it's been hacked I'm going to try and undo it and see if that helps.

The 2011 I got a few weeks ago came with BT audio already on the audio menu. So I don't know if it came that way or was hacked. My car has the comand 4.0 radio with the pcmcia slot. 2012 (and possibly late year 2011) have comand 4.5 with sd slot.

The BT pairing process was one time and both phone and audio were set. My phone runs android (SGS3). If feature is enabled and BT phone pairing works fine, you may want to try another phone (borrown a friends) to see if issue is phone based rather than a comand issue. If no other phones work, then tell dealer that you are having issues with BT phone connection and see what they can do. That feature should be covered under CPO.

Check the e class hacks thread as there were many posts abouth enabling this feature.

By the way, did anything else occur around the time your phone stopped pairing? Did you have your car in for service? Did your phone get a software update? If BT audio wasn't official until 2012, then maybe BT audio in comand 4.0 was not ready for prime time and may not play nice with all phones.

Command 4.5

On my 2011 e350 my iPhone 5 S works perfectly along with streaming my music collection via Bluetooth. I did check the version of command and it is 4.5,hence the BT function works just fine. I think command 4.5 is the answer to the problem the dealer should be able to update command for you. Best Regards

Thank you for the insight. Great idea on using another phone. Any idea where to find the type/version of command my car has? Would that be in the "engineering menu"?

I am not aware of how to check in any menu. Its been posted in other threads that comand 4.0 = pcmcia slot and comand 4.5 = sd slot. Comand 4.0 cannot be upgraded to 4.5. But maybe dealer can apply software update if BT is misbehaving.

In the 2010 model. The iPhone needs to be paired each time through external auth. Android will connect on it's own.

In the 2011 iPhone and android connect automatically.

This is how my 2010 and 2011 were.

The 2010 has to get Bluetooth turned on in engineering menu but it still needs external auth every time for apple but not android.
