European spec MBs have rear door handles that function the same as the front doors. When you try and open the locked door with the interior handle, it'll open like the front. The reason is, Euro cars have the child safety locks on the doors (I believe standard). I plan on swapping mine out when I get my W212 to the Euro style.

As a note the W205 C Class has the Euro rear locks w/ child safety. I think this may be a future running change for MB.

In my 2010 E550 and in the 2011 E350 model that I had before the doors cannot be unlocked other than electronically or by pulling the door lock pin up by hand. Thinking about an accident that disables the electronic unlocking function you cannot unlock the doors if the pins are flush with the door surface.

Some other cars (I know Audi, perhaps BMW also?) have doors to unlock when you pull the door opening handle twice. In my car this does not work.

For this reason I will not change the lock pins simply because I could not live with myself if I had someone burn in my car just because the silly doors could not be unlocked because the electronic system failed and no lock pins to pull.

I thought I saw the AMG pins option when doing a build on MBUSA site recently at $40, but it didn't say how many are included.

Changed Door Lock Pins

For what it is worth.

Went to the dealer to order pins to make this change myself. Paid $40 per pin.

Parts man did not realize they came in different sizes for my vehicle(2014 E350) - he thought they were the same.

I can confirm that the front pins are longer than the rear.

I can confirm the front will twist off -- will require a pair of pliers to grab and twist counter clockwise --- keep twisting...it will twist free.

I can confirm rear plastic pins are pulled off - require a strong firm constant tug applied with some twisting.

I can confirm this does not require door panel removal.

New pins screw on the front - may want to use some Loctite. Rear pins will need an epoxy or a gel super glue to hold in place.

Enjoy, save money, good luck.

Thank you for all the confirmation. On the rear pins, is there a strong resistance when you're installing the new pins? Seems like the rear plastic pins are pressed fit.

Not much resistance when fitting new pins...yes...there was a lot of resistance to pull off old pins but the do ultimately pop off....and fit flush when locked so I believe the new pins are seated properly...

So $40 price on MBUSA site for this accessory is "per pin" price? That's not clear at all because it says "pins" (plural).

So after screwing on the front pins, they are loose unless you apply Loctite? The rear pins require epoxy (i.e. there is no way to press them on)?

Also, did they come with any detail installation instructions?

Price was $40 per pin.

No, Front Pins are not loose w/o Loctite --- but is advised per Daimler AG retrofit instructions.

No, Rear Pins do not snap into place and will slide off unless secured per retrofit instructions.

Enjoy.

So wierd.... Why such a difference for essentially the same pins on the same car. MB engineers must have gone crazy.

Quick ebay search confirms price (unless someone gets fooled by Asian knock-offs).
Anyone know if MB sells plain stainless pins without logo?
