E350 muffler delete
Wondering what the overall consensus is amongst the forum on doing a muffler delete on the W212? I have heard some subpar sound clips on YouTube but interested in hearing from those that have either done it or heard it in person...
Sound: Heavy drone? Aggressive sound or obnoxiously loud?
Error: does this trigger a light on our instrument panel?
Anything else that I should know that would help me decide one way or another?

I'm planning on doing some exhaust work after the summer, so hopefully we can figure some things out here before getting started.
1) Location of O2 sensors. I need to find out the placement of the O2 sensors in the exhaust piping. If you remove a resonator that's placed in front of the O2 sensor, you'll definitely be throwing codes. You want to make sure removing of any pipes/resonators/mufflers doesn't interfere with the O2 sensor.
2) Are you planning to keep original OEM tips? Those are mounted along the bumper if you take a look and is not connected to the tailpipe. I'm planning on going with S63 tips and weld them to new piping. I wonder if new tips will require mounting like the OE tips, which is what I'd prefer to keep them in place.
3) Consider doing a resonator delete and possibly an X-pipe before going full muffler delete. I've been looking alot into the E550's, C350's that have done muffler delete's. With an E350, remember that it's not a V8 so you're not getting that impressive roar with a muffler delete. It will just be loud, and possibly with a bit of a whine or rasp! I'm thinking that a resonator delete & X-Pipe combo will free up the air restriction on the E350 and give a decent tone while not being obnoxiously loud. I feel like the E350 (direct injection) has good power and would sound great if it could just breathe a bit better with less restrictive piping.

Guys, what about a happy medium by only deleting one of the two mufflers? That way, it's not as loud. The question is, what side to do as that side will be louder.

UPDATE: I took all feedback into consideration and decided to only do the resonator delete. For $63 I truly love the sound it provided and now have true dual exhaust. It gives a deeper (more aggressive) sound when accelerating but still very quiet at idle. Highly recommended for those simply looking for a meatier sound while maintaining the luxury Mercedes integrity.

Actually this would be a removal as a "delete" is something that you have removed by manufacturer or dealer before car is purchased. Which means this is an approved action by the manufacturer.
What you have done is change the configuration of your vehicle without manufacturer's approval, let alone your state DOT/DMV/DPS. May come back to haunt you at trade in, so keep old parts.

So you just replaced the resonator with a straight pipe correct?? Or did you opt for a high flow resonator that has the grooves in it??
I'd love to hear a video or sound clip so we know how it sounds during idle/acceleration both inside and outside the cabin.

I've had a muffler delete on my car for a few years now...
No problems, costs ineffective, and sounds nice!
I must say however it does sound more like an infinity but does so in a way where it sounds distinct to the nature of a mercedes benz.
Here is a my channel where i have posted my car pushing some nice revs..
Overall i must say i am satisfied with the way it sounds, but recently (since i have not driven my car for a while) i have been quite annoyed with the drone it produces out of the dual tips.. Until the engine really warms up and clears its throat (cleaner air filters, clear pipes, fresh fluid) i find myself trapped in either the lower gears (higher revs) or higher gears (very low revs)
...but its by no means "obnoxious"

500, thanks for posting...sounds pretty good. I use my E as a winter car and run a CLK550 in the summer with a modified exhaust. Always a little disappointed when I make the switch, although the E is so awesome I quickly get over it. This will have me thinking. Thx

BUMP ! Any sound clips of a 2012/2013 E350 with Resonator Removed? Is it s strait pipe done by the muffler shop or a special resonated pipe bought online? Does it cause any code issues? Help! I want a louder sound out of this stock exhaust and better air flow but dont want drone sound...

@eNNCity, unfortunately I forgot to do this months ago. I'm traveling this week for work but I'll try to remember to get a clip of it when I return home.
PS- UPDATE, for the most part I'm happy with the sound when driving. Once it's warmed up it sounds great from inside & outside the car (no droning & deeper externally) but at idle it sounds like it's a diesel. Due to eliminating some back pressure (straight pipe instead of X-pipe), it tends to have more of a "putt putt" diesel sound when parked.

ohh man i'd really like to hear how your car sounds. I removed the resonator and installed an xpipe instead. Almost no difference so I'm still looking for a deeper sound. Post that video soon!

The res delete seems to be the best first step to try. It's cheaper to do and I assume not too much $ to reverse in case you change your mind. Worth trying before you sink more $$$ into aftermarket parts.
