Two flat tires
Hi, I need some opinions. I was driving at about 50 mph on a four-lane road. All of sudden, I felt the car had a "bump". Then Dashboard shows checking tires. I parked at a parking lot nearby and found out two driver-side tires blown out. They both have a hole. There is a little black mark next to the hole on each wheel. The two holes are at the same clock position. The car was towed by MB to a dealer. The dealer asked me to pay $618 plus tax.
My question is that is this a road hazard or defective tires. It's e350 2014. I just had 10,000 mile service in the dealer.
Thanks!

Irrespective of whether it's a tire defect or pothole if you've the tire and wheel protection the tires + and damage to the rims will be covered.
But it looks like you hit a pothole as it's unlikely that both front and rear tire can be defective.
I had a tire blow out when I hit a pothole in Feb. M-B Roadside assist towed my car to a M-B dealer who replaced the tire plus a new Alloy Rim at a cost of almost $800.00!
It was covered under my tire+rim protection!

Thanks all for your input. The thing puzzled me was the blow point on the two tires are the same, say 6 oclock. And I felt the bump once. I may overlook a small pothole. But shouldn't be a large one crossing two tires.
DC-IT, did you purchase the tire+rim protection separately?

I purchased it at the time of signing the deal for $970.00 and it covers 5 years. So far the first claim more or less paid for the cost of the protection and I still have over four years coverage!

2014 E550-sold 😩
At 50 mph it probably just felt like one bump. Why are there still potholes in the middle of June?

Sounds like you hit something. As for the exact same position that just a coincidence. The front end rear tires won't even rotate at the same rate in the corners so those exact same positions won't be the exact same positions once you drive around the block. This is why I bought the road hazard on my car.
