US W212 Facelift Tail Lights

For the first time ever, MB delete the Turn Signal Lights on MY 2014 W212.
Because in US the Turning lights is made with the Brake Lights (!) and maybe MB earn 8 cents/car, they let the holes empty on US Tail Lights for the Turning Signal white part.

I order, without checking a pair of US model of Tail Lights and because I live in EU , it is odd to use Brake lamp for Turning Signal.

I want to try to use the Tail Strips for signaling, but I need a copy of a US MY2014 Lighting Coding from Rear SAM.

Thx,

That's a shame, I noticed what is that long white part for when I never see it come on.

Euro spec E have the clear part with an amber signal. North American ones use the brake lights to signal. The connectors between Euro and NA lights are different. Any way to get Euro lights to work on an NA car?

How come you can order an US spec'd car while living in EU...? I'm sure EU spec'd cars are not available in the US. Its a shame that most of the newer luxury cars in US are showing this trend (of using brake lights for signaling), I don't like it but I can't help it. I would like to know if you were able to retrofit it though.
I'm sure you would have tried it with your dealer already. May be you need to change the whole brake / signaling light system including wiring...?

It's possible that it's an imported car for his market (just a complete guess though).

US taillights

I just made a modification on a prefacelift model and I choose US model taillights because I pay much less here. And because is just a project to learn how to code...

The US taillights has open holes on signaling parts, MB choose to not mount few LED's.

I code with succes, now this 'hybrid' make signal with brake lamps but is not legaly in EU!

Can you give us more info on the coding? I'm thinking about doing the same.

I too, am VERY interested in this topic. I am trying to perform the reverse, I own the 2014 E250, and have purchased the Euro rear lamps (to incorporate the amber turn signal), however, I have been unsuccessful, as the Euro lamps have a 5th connector (wire, is my understanding), I assume for the amber signal. PLUS, no one (MB Dealership) in the U.S. seems to know how to programme the Euro set-up if I were able to make the connections successful.

FYI: The U.S. spec does NOT have amber L.E.D. installed.

I would like to know if anyone has any connections as to how to make my Euro rear lamps work on the U.S. models???????

I find this most disturbing that MB would opt out of amber turn signals (the classy appearance, safety in my opinion), even if the U.S. government DOESN'T require them! This cost-cutting is right alongside the headlamp control whereby the dial-knob is lit (as well as the rear fog lamp button), but the options for parking lamp, headlamp, side lamps etc. ARE NOT LIT!

Depend only about actual state of the car.
I can send the EU codings for rear lights.
EU model has only one extra wire for signal LED, very simple to add.

Trigital,

PLEASE SEND ANY EU CODES/INSTRUCTIONS YOU CAN REVEAL…plus can you send instructions on how to add the signal LED wire? Thanks in advance and greatly appreciated.

Yes, I agree with your comments !! The amber tail lights are much more visible @ night than red ones !!!
But MB is not alone in this cost-cutting direction. Both Audi and MB are utilizing brake lights as turn signals.

As for the front turn signals, both Audi and MB cancel out the DRLs for the active side turn signals. The result, for the MB E Class and Audi A6, is that one side has the white DRL, while the activated front turn signals flashes yellow on the opposite side. It looks rather strange !

BMW also has red signals in North America.

The front signals doing that is so you can more clearly see that side has the signal on versus the amber light also fighting with the DRL.

What is this green light in the trunk lid supposed to do? It isn't usefully bright for any purpose and you can't see it unless you put your head under the trunk lid. Any ideas?

It's there in case you decide to dive into the trunk, shut it and then want to get out ! I believe MB calls it the 'emergency trunk release'.

Yes, your explanation makes good sense ! But when one side has white LEDs and the other is flashing amber, it does look a bit odd. The front amber LEDs are certainly effective, just wish that the rear ones also flashed amber.

Derek,

I agree wholeheartedly. They need to keep amber turn signals in the rear as well.

I was told that the front daytime LEDs turn off during the day because they don't want anyone confusing a turn signal for day time running lamps, that is why the daytime lamps switch off when turn signal is engaged (day light hours)…safety first!

EU version :

35.VCD_Parameter_Lichtfunktion = Coding string Dec.: 016 016 016 010 010 010 000 022 000 005 002 088 000 003 001 061 094 199 255 009 198 247

...if you know what is it...., but there is other strings too for mod.

That why I said about this depend on actual state of the car.

And to not forget, I start this thread asking US coders to help me with SAM-R codings!

Let me get this straight. You ordered US spec tail lamps and the amber lights are not present in US tail lamps, correct...? So what was the state of your tail lamps before you purchased these. Your car is a 2014 (W212) which already has the newer tail lamps.
Did you purchase a US spec car new or did you just replace your tail lamps?
I am trying to understand in what way US coding is going to help you (even though I can't seem to help)? US coding won't get your amber lights working anyway.

My car is EU spec prefacelift.
I just mount US facelift tail lamp ( with empty holes on amber lights) and I need US codings to make the Brake lamp play as turning signal too.....

Thanks for that. Let me ask you one thing. Is it possible for you to talk to your seller and get the tail lamps exchanged for EU version. That way you can get it coded locally, your amber lights will function as well and we all will feel a little better. I presume you must have already tried that route.

I finally code this ( coding is my business..), and now is OK, but look funny between EU cars.

If some one need it, I have for sale a pair (4 pcs) of facelift rear lights US model. I pay for this 350 Euro.

It can be mount on prefacelift models (Avantgarde, Elegance, Clasic) only if the rear bumper are exchanged too.

So you went through all this trouble of coding and fitting lamps and now you are selling it. Strange. Anyway good that everything worked out in the end.
As for the other question, would you be able to code the EU version lamps for US spec cars if we were to buy it?
